Has anyone ever gotten a rejection by certified mail? I received something today and missed it, and I really can't think of what else it could be - I'm not expecting anything.

What I've learned from OGI so far: no amount of networking and partners vouching for you to interviewers can make up for being outside a firm's grade range.

Not sure what else to really say. I networked extensively with the firms (both of which are top in my home nonNY nonDC market) and had great connections with everyone I met (they reached out to my interviewers without me asking). I'm a good interviewer and even these specific interviewers (two separate firms) clicked better with me than other interviews for which I got callbacks and even mentioned the partners reaching out to them and said I seemed to know the firm and practices really well and that I'd fit in well there. They also responded to my thank you emails very positively. Literally the only thing that could possibly have kept me from getting callback interviews was my GPA being under a hard or semi-soft cutoff (by about 0.10). Stings a lot because I know people who have 0 ties to the market got CBs at these firms. They just didn't want to dip down and that's really the worst feeling in the world. No other dings have stung during interview season except these two firms, and that includes some post-CB dings from some top vault firms.

Pull of the partner matters too. Your forgetting that. Some are rainmakers that can do those things and some are really not.

So a partner chairing the diversity committee and also sitting on the hiring committee and another partner who was head of his practice group wouldn't count as a strong pull? This whole process is really just a sham. Firms should all just move to the Quinn model with a GPA cutoff because that's essentially what they are doing here. Once you're passed a threshold you're in consideration and other things come into play, but if you aren't it's a ding no matter what.

Someone reported a CB there a while ago and it's been in the oP for a while. I would stop reading tea leaves for firms that have already given out CBs. The likelihood of getting off a hold list is very slim.

Also, sorry for the delay in updating the OP - it's being updated right now.

[EDIT] OP is now up to date.
