Re: Callback, offers, dings - CA thread!
Replying to post an update regarding my earlier freakout about Covington SF. I interviewed on 9/2 and didn't hear a response until 9/14. However, I had also interviewed with the Washington (DC) office on 9/8, and they extended me an offer for both offices on the 14th. Presumably, Covington's desire to extend both offers at the same time pushed back the SF decision. So if anyone else did something similar, don't freak out if you don't hear back from Covington right away.

Sorry for the ding. Would you have considered working there if you had received an offer? I have an offer there and really liked them, but I'm worried it is a risky move.Anonymous User wrote:Offer from K&L Gates (LA), post-CB ding from Gunderson.

Re: Callback, offers, dings - CA thread!
CB was on the 8th, ding was by snail mail last Fri. I think they do really cool work, but I didn't click with some people there, so I like to take away the sting of rejection by saying I wouldn't have gone there anyway. Wasn't too worried about the risk, my understanding was that the SV legal market was pretty healthy and likely to stay that way for a while.Anonymous User wrote:Sorry for the ding. Re: Callback, offers, dings - CA thread!
Thanks for the info. I'm just keenly aware that we're basically interviewing for a job that starts 2 years from now, and who knows what the economy/legal market is going to do between then and now. I hear Gunderson burned some incoming 1st years in 2008.Anonymous User wrote:CB was on the 8th, ding was by snail mail last Fri. Question: Do firms extend all offers at the same time?

Re: Callback, offers, dings - CA thread!
From my experience, no. One of my offers came a week after I saw someone (who interviewed on the same week as I did) on TLS with an offer; another one of my offers came three weeks after I saw someone (again, same interview week) on TLS with an offer. I'm starting to believe there is a "hold" pile.Anonymous User wrote:Question: Do firms extend all offers at the same time?

Its not just a hold pile; firms may not have the exact number for next summer yet. I interviewed with a firm Monday where they told me their final class size will be done this week. From 9-12, makes a big difference when you interview late.

My PH offer was one business day after CB, late last month. I'm about to pull out, so hopefully some other people get good news soon.Anonymous User wrote:anyone hear from paul hastings recently? any offers after 1 week+?

I just dropped offers from STB and OMM, so hopefully that helps someone waiting.

Re: Callback, offers, dings - CA thread!
I actually really liked the OMM folks in the SF office, but I was lucky enough to have some other great options (that I am still weighing). I think i would have been happy enough at OMM, but when I was able to choose between other firms I liked equally well it came down to things like worrying about the recent partner departures. I suspect that the concerns about OMM's health are overblown, but I found myself in a position where I could be really nitpicky, so even a potentially not-that-serious concern became a deciding factor.Anonymous User wrote:also just curious - why did you decide not go to OMM? which OMM office?Anonymous User wrote:Just curious, why are you ditching PH?Anonymous User wrote:My PH offer was one business day after CB, late last month. I'm struggling to formulate a short-list, but GDC, Ropes, and Cooley SF will all be on it.Anonymous User wrote:LA. What are your top contenders?Anonymous User wrote:Fair enough. Which office? I'm seriously considering accepting there.Anonymous User wrote: I accepted GDC.
