Do you go to CLS? I've had 10 interviews and only one callback. I'm freaking out. What firms did you hear from?

CLS people never ever refer to their school as "T14". It's almost always "T5" actually...

What are your #'s if you don't mind me asking?

(This is the Anonymous User with 3.9/LR btw)

It's not Columbia.
Two of the three firms I've heard from are smaller firms with offices in this city only. The third is a bigger firm, but has HQ here. The three firms I haven't heard from are national firms with multiple offices; all three said they'd start making calls at the end of the month. So if you're worried about the bigger firms, it's not time to panic just yet.

Not the poster you were addressing, but wanted to comment on this. Unfortunately, your experience is, I think, going to be a repeating story this fall. A TON of top students from Emory are having lots of interviews and 0-1 callbacks.

transfer, I finished #1 where I am coming from though, >4.00 and now I am having some severe second thoughts about it. My buddy from my old school (who made out like a bandit because of transfers) already had callbacks from interviews from the same firms I've interviewed with.

Absolutely, but I suppose my point was that normally, these top students would have no problem getting tons of callbacks. I just wanted to sympathize.

CLS - transfer (gf is transfer as well)

30 or so interviews, 2 callbacks, a few rejections. One callback was a small firm, the other GT in New York.

I have heard of a few students getting callbacks from the more prestigious firms, but I think some firms are waiting and others are just brining only the very top kids for the time being.

I worked at a recruiting department (not that I'm an expert on this) and my gut is that there are about 1/3 of the summer jobs that there were before. Between firms cutting programs entirely and the others bringing back FAR less people. Stemming from that, I would not want to be in bottom half of CLS and be counting on a big market, market rate firm job. Of course, for a transfer like me, any job is better than what I would have had.

My friend at Sullivan and Cromwell said that they were only giving a 1/4 of the callbacks this year to CLS kids because they are pretty confident that the top students from CLS will accept their offer immediately because they are one of the few firms doing well. I think the last two posters have really valid points if you extend this thinking to all law firms. It is conceivable that all law firms are only going to give offers to the top students (vain as it is) because they all think they will accept. Thus, leaving everyone who isn't in the top 20% f-ed in the a.

I doubt they do much over the weekend, so I wouldn't panic yet (or maybe we should already have panicked even before OCI).

As one Big Firm recruiter told me: "in the past we pretty much hired people we liked (70 or so people a year), but now it's different."

I think the whole process will be slow for most students. The top (and by top, I mean, t-5 law review) students will get callbacks and offers and then the firms will see how things are going. Why would they do anything differently?

You've had 30 interviews already? CLS has only had 2 days of interviews. The most I've heard of peple doing over those 2 days is 15. How'd you get 30?

17 interviews, 0 callbacks / 1 rejection @ t14. top 1/3. pretty scared.. hopefully firms are just taking longer to do callbacks because most people i know have 0-1 callbacks right now w/ the exception of a few of the top, top students who have a handful.

T14
~4.0, Secondary Journal
~15 interviews
0 callbacks
West Coast.

Edit: 10 interviews so far, 1 callback.
This was me. I've now had 11 interviews (all last week) and three callbacks. Each of the CBs were phone calls from my interviewer followed by emails with details. The calls came between one and three days after the interview.

T14, top 10%, LR

9 interviews
7 callbacks

NY+DC.

I feel very fortunate, but my situation is not that unusual. i know a few top 1/2 people who have 3 or 4 callbacks already.

Has anyone heard interviewed with any of the large Michigan firms, in particular Varnum, Dykema, Dickinson, Honigman, Miller?

30 interviews including my girlfriend - 15 each. Two callbacks total - one each. Sorry if that wasn't clear. More today. Interviews are way more fun when you get offered job.

What are things looking like for people only interviewing in their local market? Enough of this Vault crap.

--LinkRemoved-- has a nice thread going keeping track of which firms have offered callbacks already after the first week of interviews. Look at your own peril....
