As far as how to find good trial lawyers, you can start by asking your judge or other experienced lawyers who you trust and have a good relationship with. If you keep hearing the same names, they’re probably pretty good.
For commercial lit, which it sounds like your background is in, an imperfect proxy is to look at the top litigators in your area from Chambers or whatever, and see from their bios if they actually try cases. Or consider firms that are reputed as trial specialists. Ime e.g. Susman and Bartlit really do try more cases than other firms. Though for commercial work there’s no way around doing a lot of research and writing, especially at more junior levels.
