Sorry to hear. It happens to more than you think and depending on location/practice group, you could end up just fine. Also, we're gonna see more of these in the coming months, which should give you some cover. At least at my firm it's an open secret that we're planning on right sizing via this next round of reviews.

What firm? What city? What group? Why do you think this? A million TLS posts saying "bad things are coming, trust me bro" with no context or actionable information does nothing except spin up this place's collective anxiety, maybe without merit. Come on people; please don't sit on information like this this is one of the primary reasons TLS exists especially now that ATL has gone to shit.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 4:29 pmSorry to hear. Kirkland. Corporate (M&A and adjacent). Firmwide. Can only guess on the why but heard there are large swaths of unproductive associates, including folks that fall into "would not have hired them in the first place were it not for the crazy market." General sentiment is that the firm overhired/overpaid and folks don't have confidence that all of those people will suddenly become busy again any time soon.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 4:33 pmWhat firm? What do you mean "pop up" review? And by "not as many deals" do you mean you were toward the bottom on hours in your group? I thought you said you were hitting 180?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 4:28 pmWSGR junior. I had a random, unscheduled performance review pop up, then I was told two months later it was time to go. Work must have been fine, because I was still being staffed on things, albeit not as many deals. It was slow all around. Wasn't pleased because I had lateraled there and switched practice groups, like OP. Now I have two firms on my resume in two years. Transition services were terrible. Was at the firm around 8-10 months before I "voluntarily" departed.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 2:54 pmOP/WSGR junior - did either of you ask why you were terminated? Not that I doubt you, but this just seems so farfetched without something else we're missing. Is there any person at all at the firm who might have reason (likely unjustified) to say you're untrainable or unprofessional?

Pop up = unscheduled.
Supplemented my hours with pro-bono, knowledge management, whatever I could, where I could, so I would always be at 40 hours a week at least. Can't create deals out of thin air.

How many client billable hours were you doing per month?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 6:37 pmPop up = unscheduled.

Re: Fired after 6 months
I have a friend who is a mid-level who lateralled to WSGR and was let go about six months later.
It was a change of practice and my understanding was there wasn't enough work to go around. My friend's old firm immediately took this person back, so it's safe to say my friend is a fine co-worker and attorney and this one is WSGR fault for over-hiring.

Interesting, I know someone else who had a similar experience at WSGR as a midlevel. S/he lateraled in and was let go within a year. Its becoming quite a pattern with them.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 4:28 pmWSGR junior. Re: Fired after 6 months
As a junior I was told things were not working out at the 9 month mark and given about 6 weeks to find something new. I knew my work was not perfect, but also felt incredibly green still so I was shocked when this happened. My confidence was shattered and it took a while to build it back up. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
