The point is that it's an irrelevant comparison. Oh MBA kids get free lollipops? Good for them. I'm in biglaw and I'm not going to consulting anytime soon.
The Skadden info is relevant. Most firms are really cheap so a firm giving a full home office setup in fall 2022 is notable.

Exhibit A of why law firms have been getting away with not matching 401ks etc. I guess it was ignorant of OP to think firms would give more benefits when we all are so committed to the hamster wheel. I’m the same way as you btw, so please don’t take this the wrong way. Just quite a sad realization.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 10:18 pmThe point is that it's an irrelevant comparison. My other thought is that maybe the disparity in benefits is the profits the different professional firms make, which I’m sure someone on here will have better insight into than I do myself.

It's because salaries are extremely public and there's pressure to match because no one wants to be the firm that doesn't come OCI. But after all, OCI is a bunch of 1Ls who don't do that much research and benefits are less public so firms get away with being cheap.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 12:15 amExhibit A of why law firms have been getting away with not matching 401ks etc. I guess it was ignorant of OP to think firms would give more benefits when we all are so committed to the hamster wheel. I'm not sure how this can change or if we should even want to change it. I'm personally pro salary - let me decide what to do with it but I get the tax benefits and I'd be happy to get more benefits if it's not at the expense of salary. Regardless, I don't think the fact that consultants get better benefits is going to convince firms to improve.

I graduated from a T14 that was not HYS and accepted an offer to MBB. I’m not sure if they do physical events on campus (by the time I graduated they were still doing virtual stuff) but our career services would send out invites to virtual events and résumé drops frequently. I was deciding between this and big law offers so it wasn’t a matter of striking out. I agree that it’s not a usual path though.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:17 pmI think only HYS students have access to the truly elite JD Advantage positions - eg places like McKinsey specifically participating in HYS OCI processes. Graduates from the rest of the T14 (and below) who end up in JD Advantage are generally the ones who struck out, even if they end up in a consulting or banking role.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 8:01 pm?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:45 pmIt's not a point of comparison unless that job is an option for me.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 6:35 pmDon’t understand this point. Would you rather not have better benefits because you have a more expensive degree? Whether or not it’s deserved or not is irrelevant—it’s human nature to always want more, especially in a profession like ours.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:42 pmWhy does everything have to be a comparison to MBA jobs? Vast majority of the people here are just lawyers.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:24 pmTrue, but these things add up and signify the disparity in benefits between law firms and banks, PE firms, consulting firms, etc.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 12:48 amYou get a pay check, this isn't what's going to break you.
Plenty of T14 (and beyond) law grads go into consulting or banking every year. My school even had specific recruitment events and interview processes for both.

$2500 total over three years. Chairs and desks qualify iPads too no questions asked. $50 per month phone if you add the firm apps on ur phone (addition to mere email).

Re: Technology Stipend
Surely not that notable, what are other firms expecting you to do? My V10-20 has no stipend but provides a full setup, phone, laptop, monitors, printer and other accessories, chair. I didn't need a desk but I think if you say you don't have an ergonomic surface they have to provide a desk as well. You have to return it all when you leave though.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 10:18 pmThe point is that it's an irrelevant comparison. Oh MBA kids get free lollipops? Good for them. I joined my v50 after we were officially back to office (albeit optional attendance). We got nothing, just an assigned laptop and phone (or bring your own phone and get $50 phone stipend).Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:48 amSurely not that notable, what are other firms expecting you to do? People who were at the firm during the mandatory WFH era got dual monitors + dock + mic/speakers. Not sure about printers and other stuff, but definitely no furniture.

Re: Technology Stipend
I lateralled in, was specifically told that the stipend was only usable on tech related items and not for furniture like desks or chairs. I was aware that it previously covered those items though until recentlyZVBXRPL wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 5:24 pmlol they denied you?!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 11:41 pmI don't think chairs and desks qualify anymore
