I know at least 2 people who were no offered from the Gibson class this summer if that makes a difference in your decision…

In D.C.? I haven't heard of this. Why?
Also very interested.
I also know someone no offered at Gibson this summer and he had no negative work product feedback or anything bad happen at all. No drop in grades either. He was basically blindsided. Tread carefully friends.
Also know someone no-offered at Gibson this summer. From what I was told, it wouldn't surprise me if that individual claimed to be blindsided - but it didn't come as a surprise to anyone else.

As a GDC DC summer, I am morbidly curious. Not sure if there was anyone who fits your not a surprise description. I guess folks really should be treading carefully at GDC DC but I would bet that there were circumstances unknown publicly that affected the no-offer decision.

Not sure if we are talking about the same person, but there was a GDC summer fired in the LA office this year. To say their behavior was egregious is an understatement. If I didn't know better, I would say that summer went out of their way to get fired for the story. Had nothing to do with work product (that was very very very low on their list of issues, though certifiably on it) and certainly nothing to do with grades. Tread carefully because the firm has a conservative lean to it and often attracts these kinds of Fed Soc folks, but not because they no offer....

Previous GDC summer anon. I thought the comments before mine were referring to DC specific folks. My apologies for inserting any confusion, as it looks like the previous comments may be referring to all of GDC, not just DC.

Heard about the LA person. Oof.

GDC LA summer here -- no idea anyone was doing anything egregious and definitely no idea anyone got fired. Is that really true/what kind of behavior? The office was super clear they intended to give everyone offers and it was a super laid back summer without anything wild as far as I knew. Also only had one Fed Soc person to my knowledge and don't think he was particularly conservative. I would not say the LA office is at all conservative.

Checked this thread again because NALP sheets have come out and apparently there was only one GDC DC no-offer last year and I'm pretty sure I know the person, and doesn't academically / situationally seem like whoever this thread has been talking about. Had very little to do with work product AFAIK though they didn't get into it too much, nor was it about being racist / sexist / creepy or whatever. Apparently they were a little too '80s bro-y with both fellow summers and some full time attorneys; the woke-er fellow summers complained and the woke-er partners assented.

Seemed ticky-tac and actually somewhat contentious among the partner ranks from what I gathered, and weirdly not the GDC stereotype at all

I know / care very little about this no-offer situation but as part of the summer class I believe one year before the one in question, I remember fondly there being one (fairly senior, fairly well regarded) Associate who would use his summer-lunch allocation to get to-go bowls from an Asian fast food place, fill up the rest with packaged snacks he wanted for himself, and then drop off the summer he went with to eat alone at their desk because he ostensibly had a call right after. This happened with a suspiciously high number of summers (like n of around 5) so the associate must have had a trove of Takis by the end. Not a great look but quite funny in hindsight

Don’t know the difference between 80s and 20s broey but I hope this guy wasn’t canned for having a boisterous outgoing personality. Also, if you are an associate and a summer is too friendly and chummy it’s pretty easy to shut that down without resorting to no-offer. Granted this is the anonymous internet so who knows what happened but as written that sounds like a firm office trying too hard to protect a culture and in turn risking ruining a culture.

Seemed ticky-tac and actually somewhat contentious among the partner ranks from what I gathered, and weirdly not the GDC stereotype at all
Don’t know the difference between 80s and 20s broey but I hope this guy wasn’t canned for having a boisterous outgoing personality.
I mean, I see "80s bro-y" and being reported by "woke" summers and feel like I more or less understand what happened. Right or wrong, this person didn't do him any favors by saying that woke summers and partners got him no-offered lmao

What do you think happened? 80s and woke are vague. Do you think this was an issue of race, gender, or political comments?
