My firm went from business casual to casual, perhaps in an attempt to make RTO more attractive.
Damn, name the firm if it's biglaw! That's a huge perk that I think only Baker McKenzie provides right now.
I, too, would love to know

I have worked at two "buttoned up" v10s including DPW. Like any other firm, how formally people dress (and culture, for that matter) will vary widely between practice group. For a guy, I would absolutely start out in a full suit on the first day. I still see a number of people walking around in suits. Then, it's up to you to take a look at what other people you work with are wearing. A button-down shirt and slacks are fine, and I'd keep the suit jacket in your office in case you get called to a meeting with a partner, etc. I'm female, but as a summer associate I kept heels and a jacket in my office for this reason (I'm female, and this was before covid - now nobody ever wears heels. But suits for men seem to be staying at least somewhat, for now). If you're in litigation, as a summer, you may have last-minute opportunities to tag along to hearings or depositions or client meetings, and you will be expected to wear a suit. (I summered somewhere else, but remember there would always be last-minute blast emails with some cool opportunities.) If in corporate, in-person external meetings are much more rare.
