OP here. I would be interested in litigation, if that changes the calculus.
How likely are you to do a clerkship straight out of law school (either around NY or your secondary market)? If it’a a high chance - and if you have an offer from WLRK, I imagine you have the grades to get something good - then the calculus changes again. (The shift to the secondary market may be a little easier post-clerkship even if you don’t summer there.)

As others have said, WLRK lit is very good in its core areas, but it’s not for people who have specific areas of focus already. (It’s probably not the best place to go if you want to do civil rights litigation, patent cases, or death row appeals.) But if there’s ANY chance you might want to do corp or stay in NY, you give up probably the best option in those areas by not taking WLRK.

I have a feeling this is Bartlitt Beck in Chicago or an elite California lit firm if OP has a WLRK offer and their school is local to their secondary market and appellate hasn't been mentioned. Can't imagine Emory or UT realistically placing someone in WLRK for a summer.

I don't practice law anymore (and was corporate anyways) so am useless for this conversation but just pointing this out for all the people commenting.

Bartlit Beck does not have a summer program. And Chicago and California aren't secondary markets (unless it's Hueston Hennigan OC or something I guess).

Could be something in Boston (HLS), Philly (Penn), NC (Duke), Detroit (Mich), or maybe Richmond (UVA). Too hard to tell and probably doesn't matter for answering the question.

OP should give a range of firms it is for a true evaluation.

For example I'd recommend WashU or Minnesota for Kaplin Strangis / Dowd Bennett / Korein Tillery over WLRK but WLRK over Duke or Michigan.

Likely not those locations due to getting WLRK offers but same concept.
