I'd consider it if the firm will allow a deferral, but not otherwise.
There are 20 democratic candidates and it's very difficult to predict who will prevail even among the ~5 top contenders. Your job could be over before the year is out if the candidate seeks an early exit, and likely will be over by mid spring if the candidate is not the nominee. Going from a low level research associate position to a plum administration job is very much a long shot gamble- better have a back up plan.
