Currently, Arabic, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish are the languages in the Consular Fellows pipeline.

Spanish is actually in very high demand in the consular section. If you become an FSO, there's a good chance you'll be posted in a consular section in a Spanish-speaking at some point, particularly early in your career.

OP, if you want to be an FSO and don't have any other job leads, by all means apply for the fellows program. But keep in mind that being an FSO is extremely difficult, with as low as 1% of applicants eventually becoming an officer. I'm not saying that to deter you; it's just not a "fall back" job even with a law degree.
