Yeah, this--I don't know how this is shocking to anyone. You're a Yalie, you have multiple V5 offers. For the firm offices that have posted their numbers, does this mean that they have completed both* their 1L and 2L hiring?

Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
I would guess that most of these firm offices have completed their 1L and 2L hiring. People likely know these distributions based on emails from the firms with information for the summer program; information that the firm would wait to send out if they knew they hadn't completed hiring yet since it's easier to send it once than twice.Anonymous User wrote:For the firm offices that have posted their numbers, does this mean that they have completed both* their 1L and 2L hiring?

I can't speak for others, but the one I posted was a 2L class. I'm assuming at least some of the others are similarly only 2L classes.

OP here - I asked a firm I had a callback with (whose numbers were also posted), and they have not completed 1L hiring yet.Anonymous User wrote:These are most likely only 2L numbers.Anonymous User wrote:For the firm offices that have posted their numbers, does this mean that they have completed both* their 1L and 2L hiring?

Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
Most people who attend YLS are type-A gunners who wouldn't be deterred by having to do work during an internship. They pick firms based on their perception of strength of the platforms: Wachtell/S&C for corporate, Munger/Paul Weiss, etc. Cravath with its forced rotation system isn't ideal for either corporate or litigation.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, this--I don't know how this is shocking to anyone. Agreed, that is extremely low for the school that claims to dominate the Texas market. Maybe a substantial number of UT candidates declined offers? My thought is 29 in Houston? Seems like a lot for a smaller K&E office.Anonymous User wrote:Rough numbers for UT.Anonymous User wrote:Kirkland & Ellis - Houston (29)

Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
I wouldn't read too much into this as a reflection of UT to be honest. It's rather well known that K&E Houston has an aggressive bro-y culture that turns away many people. I knew several top UT students with offers from K&E who purposefully went elsewhere, even with the extra summer signing bonus incentives they give to people nowadays.Anonymous User wrote:Agreed, that is extremely low for the school that claims to dominate the Texas market. So this might be self selection by the qualified UT students or self selection by K&E for most bro-y kids (or UT just not doing well, but frankly I doubt that)
Also yeah *29* summers for a <100 person office sounds crazy to me. Bravo if they 100% offer everyone and are actually looking for that much growth (but that many summers and not more laterals?). If that turns into a competitive summer class with deep cuts though, I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
Current UT student here: I agree this was self selection by UT students to go to more established firms in TX (BB, VE, AK, etc.) But I disagree on the idea that this will be a competitive class. I would be shocked if KE ruins their reputation of 100% offers nationwide by not offering some of these summers. That's one of their major recruiting tools and the first words out of the recruiter's mouth when I interviewed there. Also, I've spoken to some that received the summer signing bonus and some that did not.Anonymous User wrote:I wouldn't read too much into this as a reflection of UT to be honest. This was something the Houston office did in the first two summer classes after the office opened in 2014 to attract high quality candidates. My understanding is that they discontinued this beginning with this class.Anonymous User wrote:Is the K&E summer bonus only in Houston? I'm summering with another office and haven't heard of that.

Clearly they need to reinstate this to avoid losing all the highly qualified UT students who self-select based on KE Houston's aggressive bro-ey cultureAnonymous User wrote:This was something the Houston office did in the first two summer classes after the office opened in 2014 to attract high quality candidates.
