Why? Just wait until the 20th then lol. At this point, you've already sent in your materials, so just wait and try not to stress

SEMW's Symplicity site says pre-select begins on Wednesday 7/13

I think some people may need to book flights to come back to st. louis for the EIW, and could not do so (or make the decision to do so) without the schedule.

I got two emails notifying me I was selected for some screeners with the NY interview programs and some with the DC program. It didn't say what firms or places they were. Also, I logged onto the MCGC site and it doesn't say which places there either. I am a 3L though and exclusively applied to post-grad positions, so 2Ls- don't freak out. Emails should be coming in today and tomorrow and rolling throughout the week, I imagine.

Email:

"Dear Sprout:

We are writing to inform you that you have been selected for some interviews in 2016 New York Interview Program OCI Session/2016 Washington, DC Interview Program OCI Session. (Separate email for DC but otherwise identical.)

You may start confirming these interviews by July 12 after 4:00 p.m. CDT. The deadline to decline and cancel your interview(s) is July 15 before NOON CDT. Please note that interview slots are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Sincerely,

The MCGC Staff”

Have a screener with Debevoise at SEMW, though it's not posted to the SEMW site yet. I only know of it because their recruitment office contacted me to tell me that they decided to bump a phone interview I had scheduled with them to an off-campus slot.

Anon grad above here. Thought of a coupla things.

Just in case it's new info for some people (it's been a couple years so I don't remember for sure if this is true; apologies if this is inaccurate now): some times the person running the event will have a slot to fill at the last minute or you don't know you're on a waitlist until it's go-time. If I remember correctly, I had the person ask me if I wanted to take a spot that opened, but I hadn't been on a waitlist or anything as far as I knew (I at least wasn't told anything about it).

I don't remember for sure but I think the surprise interview was either the firm I eventually accepted or another one that offered me. So it wasn't some throwaway thing; the waitlist aspect won't matter once you're in the door. You could possibly try asking the event coordinator person to let you know if a slot opens. You still shouldn't be annoying (notice I said you should ask her to let you know, which means don't beg or prod) and should be ready for the answer to be no (e.g. I don't advise booking travel if you get 0 spots and 0 known waitlist spots).

Caveat: I had good 1L grades and I'm sure the person had access to that info or at least knew that I had a lot of interviews already. So it's possible she grabbed me because I was free and she knew my stats were high enough. I really have no idea what the process was. I just know she said something like "can you interview with XYZ in 20 minutes? A spot opened up."

Bonus unsolicited advice: if it's in a hotel room, it may be awkward. Especially if you can see the bed. But note seating arrangements as well. Our interview day had 2 chairs across from each other over a long coffee table and then a couch perpendicular to them (facing the coffee table). The chairs sank down a ton and made posture really awkward---anybody sitting there looked super uncomfortable. And the chair was far away which made it weirder. In one interview, I sat on the couch close to the interviewer and he commented that I was the first person all day who didn't opt for the awkward, far-away chair. I think that was the firm I accepted an offer from. Basically my point is you have to adapt once you start interviewing. Notice your surroundings and notice patterns. If you notice something like this in Interview 1 (e.g. you accidentally sat in the sinkhole chair of death), don't let it get in your head and don't let it mess you up again. [Edit: this looks like I'm saying it's SUPER IMPORTANT---don't take it that way. I'm certain it's not the reason I got an offer; it was, however, a nice icebreaker that he joked about it at the beginning of the interview while I was sitting down. Don't overthink it and please don't let this post, which I mean to be lighthearted, get in your head. I just think it's kind of amazing how many people turn socially awkward during OCI. It's a big deal sure but don't be a weirdo in an effort to not be a weirdo. Lots of people overcorrect---just relax and it'll be fine.]

Last bonus unsolicited advice: NEVER. KNOCK. TWICE. They heard you. If they didn't hear you, then it's your fault for not knocking loud enough (do it loud enough the first time). Trust me, the extra 30 seconds is not worth being annoying by knocking twice.

Another anon. Agree with the underlined. If the interviewer is taking a long time with the person before you, just be patient and relax. There's nothing you can do. If you have another interview afterwords and it is going to be a timing problem, see if you can track down someone in charge to advise them. They may be able to re-arrange the schedule or handle the timing issue so that your next interviewer is aware that you were not late.

Also, don't be afraid to be somewhat agressive in the hospitality rooms if you think you have the grades. There will be recruiting personnel in those rooms and will often have resume drops for open, wild-card slots at the end of the day. If it's a place you really want to interview and they won't laugh at you because of your grades, tell them you were not pre-selected for an interview but that it's a place you'd really like a chance to interview with and maybe one or two reasons why that is/you're a good fit.

Completely agree and can't believe I forgot it. The hospitality room will have those spots. Gun for em if you fit their profile.

And re: timing---if you're running 5 minutes late in general, you're probably early compared to most of the event. I never know why they don't structure the interviews with 5 minutes in between; it ALWAYS turns out that almost every interviewer is behind. This is a key point because you 1) shouldn't knock twice because they might be running late yet still doing full blocks; and 2) shouldn't go find someone if you're currently outside the door waiting on an interview (IMO). If you're late for the next one, the next interviewer will completely understand because that's the nature of the game. This is also why you structure your schedule strategically. If you have a dream firm, don't schedule it immediately behind another block unless you have to.

But if you are late and only get a short interview, then yeah maybe try to see if you can catch them later in the day by talking to the coordinator.

Yeah. Also, as a reference point, I applied late-June, and the time b/t when I applied and when I was offered the phone interview was about one week.

Let's hope it is a delay on part of the firms, not CCD. Since this is a multi-school consortium, delay on the part of CCD may be disadvantageous for wustl kids in slot selections (avoiding back to back interviews or even conflicting schedules).

Went ahead and asked CCD when we should expect EIW pre-select. They said they are still waiting on some firms but hopefully by Thursday. Which indicates to me that they are probably releasing them all at once this year.

EIW should not matter that much since it is just Wash U. What about MCGC and SEMW?

Didn't ask because CCD does not control that.

It's now 4PM eastern time, MCGC says preselect opens at 4 today but doesn't specify what time zone. No changes for the actual MCGC website on my end. Hoping things begin rolling out soon.
