For some reason I thought you came down on the wrong side of a chocolate chip/raisin cookie debate but I actually see that your opinion on that point is correct. Could have sworn there was something else though.

I will sheepishly go fire up my plain water soda stream now

(OP- Just do good work and be nice and pleasant and you'll be fine.)
Probably my preference for crispy chocolate chip cookies. Because I am a visionary.

Have you considered copping Salt Lake City Biglaw?

Clearly my "club soda is for recovering alcoholics" camp is the minority. Please, OP, go ahead and enjoy a club soda and lime at all firm gatherings, in your home, and at all other social occasions.

OP here.

Thanks to everyone who gave helpful advice. It is much appreciated.

As a sidenote, just wanted to ask SBL, what is your problem man? I mean first you start with the snark about taking alcohol rectally, which wasn't even funny, and then you actually go to the lengths of making an entire thread copying me about cocaine just to mock me? I mean why? What did I do to deserve to be mocked? It's people just like YOU, which is why I am concerned about this problem in the first place. I have a disease, which isn't all that uncommon that prevents me from consuming alcohol. I have had people before at Bar Review try to make me feel bad for not drinking alcohol. So I come on here and get helpful advice, but now I feel ridiculous because of your mocking posts and threads. Anyways, hope it made you feel good...jerk.

I thought SBL's joke was hilarious. You are being hyper-sensitive, both about your fear of being judged at social events and SBL's post.

Reality: people (adults) are more concerned with what they are drinking than what you are drinking. You don't drink. Your choice. No explanations necessary. It is far better to be the sober guy that doesn't drink and can carry on a normal conversation than the back-slapping jackass making a fool out of himself and permanently negating any credibility he might have. I have known many people that just plain don't drink; some have had reasons like recovering from alcoholism, some have had religious convictions. The best one I knew was this really cool guy that just plain didn't drink. He just didn't want to. He was social and cool and fun, really good looking, and always had the hottest girls hanging off him.

Do you. Own it.

When you end up no offered please understand that it is not because of people unreasonably judging you for avoiding booze; it will be the result of people reasonably judging you for your hypersensitivity.

I'm not being hypersensitive at all. I'm just flabbergasted that you continue to be a complete asshole to someone who is telling you that they have a medical problem, and was seeking advice. I have Chron's disease, and just to enlighten you, here is a short description from the Mayo Clinic: "Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition. Inflammation caused by Crohn's disease can involve different areas of the digestive tract in different people. The inflammation caused by Crohn's disease often spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue. Crohn's disease can be both painful and debilitating, and sometimes may lead to life-threatening complications."

I don't want your sympathy or pity, and I know plenty of people have their own problems, but for you to go out of your way to mock someone with a serious disease is reprehensible. Are you the type of person who laughs at people with cancer who are bald? Because it sure seems like it. But I guess they would just be sensitive to get upset at your jokes. Anyways, I won't be responding to any more of your mean-spirited comments, so do not bother replying. I sincerely hope that you have good health, so that you do not have personal medical problems that consume your thoughts and make you vulnerable to other mean assholes.

Now, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but OP, have you considered... alternative means of alcohol consumption? I once inhaled some alcohol with a weird gadget. That shit hits you pretty hard. You should look into it if they sell the deals for home use. Just take a few hits of your favorite well vodka before showing up to your firm event, and just claim that you've had a few and are sticking with water the rest of the night. That way, you look responsible and fun.

Also just FYI the butt shot comment was pretty funny

I feel bad for you because you're obviously not in a great place right now, but you need to realize that when people crack jokes it's not because they're making fun of your specific health problems, they're just cracking jokes. It doesn't even really have to do with you. Your best bet to do well in the profession, and I really mean this, is to lighten up and get a thicker skin.
