I was wondering if it would be wise for me to take out a 5-7k grad plus loan (for the first time) to live more comfortably the next couple of months. I'm thinking the cash is worth much more to me now than it will when I start big law next year. What do you guys think?
look at private student loans if you just need a COL supplement. For example, discover gave me effectively stafford payback terms with no initial fee and a ~5-6% interest and no cosigner (and I don't have an extensive credit history).
Or a 0% credit card for 15-21 months. Plenty out there.

+1. I got a Chase freedom card with a huge credit limit in under 5 minutes at creditcards.com. 0% interest for 18 months. And i have basically zero credit history

Twiddle thumbs at office from 1-5, get emailed assignment while driving home, spend night working from home.

The pain is real folks.

Been working with people in different time zones and it's painful.

I wasn't quite in big-law (large mid-west firm to me is more mid-law) (also I have a story about how / why I left midlaw that seems relevant to all your interests, but I'll tell it another day - hint, its related to a firm being sloooow), and I'm not a new attorney, but this reality still surprises me. Being a lawyer was basically the first real job I had, they were paying me six figures, I figured for that money they'd just have a pile of work for me all the time and I'd earn my living. But then I had an amazing amount of idle time my first year (which stressed me to no end when, in retrospect, I should have just enjoyed it), and then the work flow was (nearly) never steady as the years went on. Young naive me just thought "work" was this intangible thing, always out there, I just have to find it. Nah, its finite alright. And of course there are exceptions and people who are drowning in work (or at least like to appear to be). This paragraph has no conclusion. I'm bad at stories. Oh, by the way, small firms can sometimes pay as much as large ones if your resume is good. Good luck kids!

I just find certain aspects of the environment funny, such as the passive aggressive use of the cc field.
