I'm an NYC associate, but my parents bought us a mini cooper. They wanted to keep it to max 25k or so and we wanted a small car so we could actually drive around here. I also like audis, but would probably only buy a used one since brand new luxury cars are expensive.

2nd year SoCal associate. Was gifted a Mercedes AMG c63 S by parents after saving them 3x the amount of the car by taking the full scholarship at a T10 over HYS. Life is good atm.

^ I'm the first poster whose parents bought them a car. They didn't buy it until I was a few years in (and had suffered for a few years in biglaw, so it was like a crappy, very practical "gift" for being in biglaw). Also it's chump change when your parents' net worth is over 10 mill, as opposed to our net worth which is chump change in comparison.

Re: biglaw. The hours and responsibilities generally get worse (except first years have pretty bad hours, but no real responsibilities). Being a junior is a lot less stressful IMO because you have no real responsibility yet and someone is always checking your work. Partners don't check midlevel/senior work.

Re: above. Making 240k v. 160k, etc. All associate biglaw salary is chump change compared to having multi-millions. If your parents want to give you stuff because they are rich, why wouldn't you take it? I don't see what the problem is. It's not like you're living off of them - you're still working a terrible job and paying your own rent, etc.

SV summer, s/o and I share a Corolla that just hit 90K miles but going strong. On any given day at least one, if not both of us bikes to work though.

Not saying it's a problem - I'm stating my jealousy. Also, did OP-Benz driver really think they could talk about mommy and daddy buying them a Benz without people joking?
