Also, people in law school always think they're competing, I wouldn't expect them to give their perceived competition for jobs some good leads.
I would definitely apply to all of the firms and see what happens.
Zuck, thoughts on following up to applications you haven't heard yay or nay? Does two weeks pass the threshold of pestering?
I never followed up and just took silence to be a ding (which sounds like the wrong thing to do based on what I've read on TLS over the past year)
So yeah, it's probably a good idea. This is just kind of random but 3 weeks sounds good (2 weeks seems kind of hasty to me). That's not really based on anything but gut feeling so YMMV.

FWIW, called a firm 3 weeks post CB to check in and reiterate interest, and within several days I had an offer from them. Not sure if this even made a difference, but just saying..

How do I follow up with a firm that I have applied to? I don't have any updated information to send them. What should I say?

When I followed up I just reiterated interest. Something like "I am writing to follow-up my previous email since I have not heard back yet. I am still interested in a summer associate position with [firm name]. I will be in town on these dates [if you will be in town visiting/interviewing/doing random stuff] in case you would like to schedule an interview. I really like [firm name]. Thank you for considering my application." I'm not saying any of this is correct, but that was my general format and I got one callback, a couple neutral responses requesting more information, and lots and lots of dings.

if you get an interview at the firms office through mailing this late, do people think it could still be a screener or is it a straight to CB interview?

I've gotten 2 screeners in the last week, so firms are still doing screeners rather than straight to CB (or I'm just a sketchy ass candidate on paper).
Edit: skype and phone, not an in-office interview. Didn't read your post correctly the first time, sorry.

I've had it both ways recently - phone/video screeners and straight-to-callback.

Firms are definitely still doing callbacks. I just had a friend get a callback at Kirkland Chi this week. I know Schiff & K&L Chi are both still looking for people! #MASSMAIL

It's been five weeks since my CB and still no updates from them (I've reached out, but haven't gotten responses). Should I assume it's a ding or stay hopeful?

It seems to be the case that firms will not give out rejections until they have enough people who officially accept their offers. What's probably going on is that they are waiting on someone else to accept or decline an offer. There is probably some chance for you, but not very high. Some firms that ultimately rejected me did not respond to phone calls or emails, then sent out a ding in early october. Others called me mid-september to say that I was on a short wait list, and I think the odds of getting a late offer were higher at those firms. Good luck!
