Do you have any specific insight other than what's in the news with partner defections and no offers?

I'm interested in this as well. What is shady about K&L? Is the shadiness limited to Pitt office? Southern offices?

Other threads discuss K&L's financial difficulties and partners leaving. http://abovethelaw.com/2015/07/barbaria ... -kl-gates/

Why is Jones Day's Pittsburgh office appealing at all? Other than that it's a job with a large salary for living in Pgh?

kind of confused RE the Jones Day bit--they pay the most in the city, don't have a history of no-offering their summers, etc.

it's shady to regularly and adamantly represent that any given office will make permanent offers to 99-100% of any given summer class so long as the SAs do a reasonably good job. as a prior SA, I can affirm that several partners swore up and down (during callbacks) that the firm doesn't over-hire SAs. "The job is yours to lose once you are a summer," they said. "If you become a summer, you've essentially won the war. Just don't do anything crazy," they said.

and HR echoes the same sort of reassurances throughout the summer. but, of course, the offer rate tells a different story altogether, which brings me to my point: if you are going to routinely no-offer 25% of your SAs, you should at least be above board about it. if you aren't, well then, that's shady.

do you think this applies to non-Pitt K&L offices that may only have 1-2 SA's?

Has anyone heard from Reed Smith? They don't come to my OCI, so all I could do was a resume collect. Any news on callbacks?

A friend had a callback last week. Reed Smith's Pitt office also does not come to OCI at my school, so he applied through mass-mailing, I believe.

Okay, thanks. I ended up interviewing with Reed Smith's NY office at OCI, so don't know if that helps my situation with them.

Have Buchanan callbacks gone out? I had a screener with them about a week and a half ago now.

This is OP, not the original one, but who said that a friend got a callback.

I interviewed with Reed Smith's NY office at OCI, too. Got dinged pretty fast, only a few days later.
Luckily, I'm biglaw secure now, but that was brutal. I don't know when was your OCI interview, but if you haven't been rejected yet, I would say that's good.

Yeah I actually got a pretty shitty feel from the NY office--interviewer was just a jackass, so hopefully the pittsburgh office isn't like that

you need not worry. the Pittsburgh office of RS will give you an equally shitty feel. lots of slick folks working in that office.

Had CB for K&L last week, JD next week.

Supposedly JD is scheduling cb until the 18th of Sep.

Yeah I had my JD cb last week and it sounds like they are going to take some time with their hiring decisions. They're kinda busy with the UPMC Highmark shit...

Has anyone gotten any rejections yet? I haven't heard anything in terms of CBs or rejections, so I'm hoping that no news is good news (at least for a potential call back).

any movement? I cancelled a callback with K&L, so hopefully that goes to someone. The only firm from OCI I have not yet heard from is Buchanan

I'm hearing that K&L signed one heck of a class, but the prospective SAs have slowly and surely defected to JD over the last few weeks.

Haha man everyone I know from my school, myself included, cancelled their K&L GaTTTTes callback. What do you mean the prospective SAs have defected? As in they have offers to both places and then went to JD instead?
