Good initiative, bad judgment.
You know what is the best way to own up to it and showing your boss that it'll never happen again?
By never letting it happen again.
Honestly, it's not that big of a deal. That's not to say you should take court dates lightly, but everyone involved (except for you) has let it go.

OP here. Ya, regretting sending that already. Pretty much doubled down on my incompetence with an overdose of extremely dramatic prose. Great.
I'm going to chalk it up to sitting in front of my computer for three hours and freaking the fuck out, and feeling the need to do something to get my own closure for it (I can hardly remember what I said during our phone call).
So ya, like all you guys have already said, he read it and likely thought "What a douche." But hey, now at least I've moved on and can hit the ground running tomorrow.
What a shitty day compounded by my own anxiety. Ugh. Time to move on.

It was unnecessary but it won't hurt you. Have a drink, go to bed, and do better next time.

Clearly, the only thing to do now is to send a follow-up e-mail, apologizing for your follow-up apology e-mail.
I kid. Learn from your mistakes (both the missing court date and the e-mail) and just move on. Don't dwell on it too much.
