Associates tell me there is 2000-2100 hours expectation but there is relatively no competition among associates (also no free market a la Kirkland system).

Re: HOURS CHECK
For those of you billing 2000 hours or more, what does that average out to in terms of hours worked (not billed) per week? 60 hour weeks? 70 hour weeks?

Re: HOURS CHECK
Do people actually get canned if they don't meet their firm's minimum billing requirement? My firm requires 1,800 hours per year, but they never fired anyone who didn't meet this mark. However, one of the partners said that not meeting the annual billing goals will hurt your chances of becoming partner.

Re: HOURS CHECK
I'm somewhere around 2200-2300 (third year, V20 corporate, NYC). Couple of points I wanted to share:
1) Your hours will probably go up each year you are at the firm, assuming your group has work and you are even a somewhat-decent associate.
2) If you are close to or over your firm's minimum by mid-October, put in for a 2 week vacation in November or December. Do it early. You won't need the hours and you're guaranteeing yourself some time off before others think to do the same.

For your sake, I hope you are at a firm like WLRK that adequately rewards those hours. I would rage-quit if I was still given a market bonus with those kind of hoursLincoln wrote:~2,600 Jan 1 to Oct 31.

If you aren't exaggerating or joking, this is ridiculous
Have you been gunning and volunteering for more and more work? Or is it just being thrown at you? Are you working under the same partner(s) for all of this or are you working under a bunch of diff ones? Not that I need to tell you this, but youre probably going to burn out very quickly if oyu don't figure out a way to get this number lower. GL

I can't get into details because it would out me. I'm not volunteering, so it's not by choice. I get a market bonus. Thinking about quitting because of the hours, but it's not an easy choice and wouldn't fit my career plans.crit_racer wrote:If you aren't exaggerating or joking, this is ridiculousLincoln wrote:~2,600 Jan 1 to Oct 31.
