Do you guys think it would be a good idea to make the cover letter the body of email, instead of attaching a pdf version? If attachment is a better idea, do you consolidate cover letter, transcript, writing sample into one single pdf or attach them separately?

There's no "right" answer, although some people have strong opinions on this. Do what you want. I put my cover letter in the e-mail and have had great success (5 callbacks and a few screeners), but I'm also top 5% at a T20.
