thanks so much, this is really helpful! Did you direct mail them in July? What was the time between direct mail and screener/CB? Also, did you have your SA offer when applying? Thanks again!Anonymous User wrote:Anon from above--one V5, two V10s (in NYC). V10/15ish in CA but that doesn't really matter much there necessarily.
ETA: that count includes both callbacks and screeners.

Re: 3L OCI
Hey--yeah I emailed in late-ish July mostly. I didn't have my offer yet. And the time varied. I had one screener offer within a couple of days, another a week later and then a third about two weeks later. Some mentioned that I was very early but I had a reason for wanted to interview then.

I have been emailing FL firms and it has been dead silent. I did interview with the one firm that responded and am waiting on their decision, but they said that decision would come after 2L recruiting has concluded.
Besides that, nothing.......

Has anyone tried to pick up interviews in hospitality suites? Either as a 3L or last summer?

3L. Tried. No luck thus far at actually getting an interview out of it; probably dropped off ~15-18 resumes/transcripts. Sometimes it goes better than other times, depending on how sociable the recruiting person is.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone tried to pick up interviews in hospitality suites? Re: 3L OCI
for anyone that successfully switched from one firm to another as a 3L, what's the best way to decline your 2L SA firm's offer? it was a very small office and I liked everyone. their offer is outstanding and i've already accepted my new offer.
just email the recruiting coordinator and say I have to respectfully decline the offer? is worth explaining that I switched firms due to a geographic preference?

Re: 3L OCI
Does anyone know what the turnaround usually is from screener to callback with 3L OCI interviews? I was told by an interviewer that it it took longer than for 2L OCI. Does anyone know?

Re: 3L OCI
Hey guys, about two weeks ago I mailed the firms that seem as though they are in the game for 3L hiring (Skadden & Kirkland did resume collect in simplicity, mailed the rest of the V20). It is definitely the case that 3L hiring works on a different schedule. Do you think now is a good time to follow up with a continued interest e-mail, or is it best to wait until September approaches (when posts from prior years indicate 3L activity heats up a bit)? Just want to get the timing right.
Secondarily, it looks like Kirkland hasn't moved on 3Ls yet, but has anyone had any traction from Latham or Skadden? They were interviewing and doing resume collect, respectively.
Thanks, and good luck!

Quoted Anon here. I was referencing Kirkland's NY office, which did a resume collect at my school's simplicity. I don't know about the LA office, but I think I recall seeing a job posting about that office as well. Look into it; good luck!Anonymous User wrote:Kirkland LA or elsewhere?Anonymous User wrote:Hey guys, about two weeks ago I mailed the firms that seem as though they are in the game for 3L hiring (Skadden & Kirkland did resume collect in simplicity, mailed the rest of the V20). Is this cycle just normal? For those firms specifically seeking 3Ls, do they typically wait until September to start going through the resumes?
Anon because people at my summer firm read this stuff.

Re: 3L OCI
Posts from previous years have indicated most 3L activity is in September and draws out into October even, after 2L hiring starts wrapping up at the larger firms. This year, with the NALP's shift in the offer deadline for full-time offers to Oct 1, the timeline may get more crammed into september, but firms will likely wait until after 2L interviewing is pretty much done regardless.Anonymous User wrote:Is this cycle just normal? Is the time frame different this year? Was it dumb of me to assume if I didn't hear in a week, move on?

Re: 3L OCI
I just have no idea how 3L hiring works. I had an interview with a firm for after my clerkship and I wrote them off after they gave 2L callbacks and I didnt hear anything either way. Maybe its on a different timeline. I still think a week is kind of pushing it, but I could be totally wrong.

Re: 3L OCI
I get the sense that the different timeline thing is real, or minimally that the 2L and 3L timelines don't line up perfectly. It kind of makes sense too since they're hiring for totally different class years.timmyd wrote:I just have no idea how 3L hiring works. I wouldn't count them out yet. GL

Re: 3L OCI
Yea, worst case I will just apply again as a fed clerk, albeit in a flyover district. I just really don't want to have to worry about it as much. The firm I interviewed with, by the way, was Weil for the Dallas branch. No word either way. I can logically see it taking longer because of a willingness to assess potential 2L class size. That being said, I don't fully understand the overt favoritism of 2Ls in terms of hiring tendencies as opposed to strong 3L candidates or judicial clerks but I digress.

Name of the game I guess.
Struggle right now is the follow-up game following silence from mass-mails. Figuring September is a good time to reach out again, but this new Oct. 1 deadline is a killer.
