Any idea about class sizes/culture for the following firms (or anything else you know about them)?

Re: LA OCI Thread 2014
I can only comment about S&C as that's the only firm I've actually worked for, so here goes:
Small summer class (between 5 and 10, closer to 5). Friendly, but not fratty. People are social in the office and go out on occasion, but it's not required. Wide range of personalities in the office. S&C has a reputation as being "stuffy," but I don't find that to be the case here. Doors are generally open. Big name rainmaker partners for corporate and a number of SCOTUS clerks for lit. Fewer than 40 attorneys but a very busy office, so expect long hours (don't come here hoping to get the S&C name without the NYC hours).

Could you PM me about S&C? I'd like to ask a few individual-specific questions about the firm before OCI. Thanks!Anonymous User wrote:I can only comment about S&C as that's the only firm I've actually worked for, so here goes:

Any ideas about the best firms doing constitutional law/appellate work in LA?
I know Gibson Dunn is up there. What else?

MTO. Be aware of 0L naivety with wanting to do "constitutional law/appellate work."Anonymous User wrote:Any ideas about the best firms doing constitutional law/appellate work in LA?

Re: LA OCI Thread 2014
Urgent: Bid list due tomorrow.
How selective is Skadden LA (versus NY)?
I've been going to the LA reception/events and I really liked everyone I met. I think a couple associates might remember me.
However, I'm at median at CCN. I have to bid them pretty high but that means taking out a less selective firm.
Do I have a shot? I know Skadden NY is a reach for me but is LA more so of a reach?

ETA: But if it's just a bid and you like them that much it sounds like it's worth it. Gotta have a couple reaches in there anyway.

Re: LA OCI Thread 2014
Anyone know the pace that LA firms typically move at when extending callbacks post-screeners? I assume it's slower than NY, but is there such a thing as same-day/next day callbacks in LA?

I'm at neither of those schools lol. Looks like it's going to be a crazy week across LA.Anonymous User wrote:ucla also has their oci at the same time, i believe. 20 screeners as well. not petrified :pgoden wrote:Sup u$cAnonymous User wrote:OCI starts Monday. 20 screeners and petrified.
Also, dumb question, but my school's OCI is 100% preselect - This means callback prospects are marginally better than schools with a lottery system, correct?
PS - Yes, I realize I basically just gave away which school I'm at.

Re: LA OCI Thread 2014
Anyone know anything about Greenberg Glusker or Ballard Spahr in LA? Picked up mass mail screeners at both and info on the Ballard office especially is really sparse on here (assuming because it's new and tiny). If anyone has info on culture, type of work each firm does, anything really I'd love to hear it.

Re: LA OCI Thread 2014
Had a mass mail screener at Ballard Spahr. Seemed quiet. They primarily do real estate work, with a small amount of IP and employment. From what I gather, they're not looking to expand beyond those practice areas. There are around 20 attorneys in the office presently, and I believe they're looking to expand to something like twice that.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone know anything about Greenberg Glusker or Ballard Spahr in LA?
