I think WUSTL has a program that will help pay for students' plane tickets to go interview out of state. Look into it, sorry I'm not more help.

Also, be aware that at some of the programs you're might not have sufficient free time to interview with a firm that isn't attending unless you stay in the city for an extra business day.
That's why I said ask friends and family and whomever. 2 interviews is important enough that you should do whatever you can to get there.

Every interview is worth it. Selectively choosing is how you can end up not getting anything and then regretting you didn't interview.
I honestly am not sure it's a great idea to spread yourself too thin. I doubt a single person attended every single off-campus program last summer and I don't honestly think it's practical to do so. You would be absolutely exhausted by the end of it, possibly to the extent of being worthless in your screeners later on (and in your callbacks). Also, there are a lot of ways people end up without employment, and just because someone goes to every single interview program does not guarantee employment, but it does guarantee shelling out at least a couple thousand dollars, which you might regret doing if you end up without employment anyway. You may have friends and family who are willing to help you out on that front, but that isn't true of everyone. Obviously one's choice to go to a given interview program depends on a lot of individual factors (how many firms are going, which firms are going, ties to the city, money, etc.), and I don't think it's great advice to just tell people to go to every interview program available just because they can. The chances of converting two screeners into an offer in a city like Atlanta without some combination of ties and stellar grades are too low, in my opinion, to justify the expenditure of time, money, and effort.

Time not spent flying back and forth to an interview program can be spent in other, arguably more constructive ways (depending on what interviews you are foregoing). You can spend more time in one of the other off-campus cities so you can try to hustle up more interviews there (mass-mail, contacting alums, etc). I just think you're oversimplifying the issue by saying that more off-campus screeners is equal to greater employment prospects.

ETA: Frankly, I think you are overvaluing screeners. I would ABSOLUTELY buy a plane ticket for even one full interview (i.e. offer is next step).

I've never heard of this.

There is the Burson Fund--but I'm almost certain it applies to only public interest/government jobs so it wouldn't help for a firm interview (but it doesn't hurt to ask). You fill out this form at the career services office and the fund will reimburse you up to $500 in travel expenses. I used it for my clerkship interviews and it helped. I think there might be some limitation on how much you can get each semester (like only $500 or $1000 each semester)--may want to ask.

"The Charles and Bunny Burson Student Activities Fund supports programs that enrich Washington University Law’s intellectual climate by funding outside speakers and student travel. The Burson Fund finances most forms of student travel; however, it will not fund travel related to participation in for-credit moot court or mock trial competitions and travel solely for the purpose of interviewing or job-seeking."

I've taken a look at the EIW list and so far it looks weaker than last year. A number of notable absences: Sutherland (DC), Arnold & Porter (DC), Skadden (Chi), Sidley (Chi), Sidley (Houston), and Paul Weiss (NYC). That said, the Chicago walk around looks better (and includes both Skadden and Sidley), and the SEMW NYC program looks stronger as well.

How can you see the SEMW program as a 3L? There's 2 programs when I use my account from last year to look.

I'm considering getting a JD/MBA, so I'm currently classified as a 2L in Symplicity. Might be doing this whole thing over again...

I guess it wouldn't cover the travel expenses then--I just threw it out there because I got Burson fund money for my clerkship interview travel expenses and I know of others who got Burson fund money to cover clerkship interview travel expenses.

A cursory search tells me that Wash U has 3 V20 firms coming to on campus EIW and only two of those are V10. Is this correct?

That's why you need to enroll on the NYC program and DC programs.

Thanks I will. I just registered on simplicity for the DC and NY off campus interviews so I haven't seen what they have to offer yet.

You registered for both SEMW and Midwest-Cali, right? Between the two and EIW, 15 of the Vault 20 are signed up so far. Missing Latham, Quinn, Boies Schiller, Wachtell, and Williams & Connolly.

K&E just joined our EIW. I'm too lazy to figure out who the other 3 employers are who joined since the platform went live..they did say some more employers would trickle in before bidding was over though, so wait to count up dat Vault prestige (or the lack of) until later haha

Who do you talk to about getting Burson funds for clerkship interviews? And can you get the full $500 for each interview? I wish I'd known this was a thing like two months ago

question for the group: Do the callback invitations come out for the off-campus programs come out relatively quickly? I scheduled some interviews on my own outside of OCI with some Boston firms back home and i'm planning on going down there the week after EIW, but i was wondering if that week would overlap with the days that employers want to do callbacks

The firm will call you and then ask you to schedule sometime. No real rush but obviously sooner the better. Nothing to stress about.

When do most of them happen though? Like late August/early september?
It depends on the market. For Chicago firms that came to EIW, callbacks started the week after EIW. For the smaller markets (STL, etc.), they usually tried to schedule callbacks for the last week in August/first week in September. Some firms were a bit later than that, but generally still in September. From what I heard, the off-campus NYC firms did callbacks right before/after EIW.

Some people got callbacks from off-campus in NYC the same day as the screener.

Just go ask in the career services office and they will give you a form to fill out. I think you can get like $500 a semester. Not too sure on the limits. I think I got $1000 out of them my 3L year.

Any idea when the Atlanta and Texas Off-Campus interviews become available? Would like to see a list of more firms that will reject me.
