Haha I am too... (although i'm looking to switch markets) which market are you in - maybe we can switch (half-joking)?

How does this process work? Do we send letters and mailings in early August?

You guys don't even have offers yet. Even then, most of you won't have a great chance to get something out of 3L OCI (there are approximately ~150 3L offers nationwide). Chill, just chill.

Is it too early to start worrying about getting no-offered?

That, my friend, is something that's never too early to think about. Don't let it negatively impact your performance though, which is a nice way of saying don't become an unloveable striver.

No offers are certainly something you can't help but worry about. But we shouldn't worry. If you're posting on this thread, you're probably not getting no offered for performance. If you're getting no offered for economic reasons, then you have no control.

Checking in. I'm not sure whether or not my firm is business casual so I guess I'm going for the wear a suit on the first day and then see if anyone tells me I don't need to approach.

Not starting for another few weeks & still in finals so tough to really think about summer yet, but excited! Thanks for making this page.

I got 24 allowances on the withholding calculator... does this sound about right for a single person w/o dependents? That withholding calculator did not include the opportunity tax credits you get as a student paying tuition; I'll also probably be paying some loan interest, which can be deducted. Will I have to wait for tax season to get that $2500 back? Thanks!

We were told expressly to go business formal on day 1, but I'm pretty sure it's more casual after that.

Two suits seems excessive unless there is a real reason. What did your firm advise?
Firm didn't advise, but I'm summering in a very weather-fritzy area, so I have one light and one heavy in both bothering to work out weight and being a lazy eater weight. Even in the summer, "summer" isn't actually always lightweight suit weather where I'll be.

I am so, so so sorry that you're still in finals. I hope you get a little vacation time beforehand.

Did someone suggest we need to let them know if we are goin to be out of town for a weekend?

My firm last summer gave the calendar of events the first week, which outlined whatever weekend events there were. As the summer progressed, they planned impromptu fun stuff the week before for a weekend. If recruiting has you on their calendar, the less you may miss.

I start next week also. Excited but nervous -- really, I'm worried about how much work we'll have and how to balance it with school-related work that I'll have over the summer (like grading writing competition packets and other journal work, fun fun). Do most places let you bill that kind of work?
Some current (former?) 3Ls told me that they would grade write-on packets at night, after getting home from work. I have a hard time believing that any firm would allow you to do school-related work at the firm.
You can do personal work from the office. You can't bill for it or anything, but one perk of biglaw is that you get an office and get treated like an adult in it. Bring your writing competition stuff to work and do it during downtime all you want.
On that note, what should we be doing in our down time this summer. From what I understand there is a lot of down time as a summer. (Obvs k-jd)

bump also wondering this

Samesies. For two more days.

Not an SA (Fed Gov't instead). Starting exactly two weeks after my last final and cannot. wait. Have a "guaranteed first round" right after it's over with the DA's office I spent 1L summer in, and I believe applications for federal hiring (e.g. the shot in the dark Honors Program) start around the same time.

My firm is fairly casual (not Quinn). Still suit up for the first day because it's the first day?

Yeah, I actually "know" that my firm is pretty casual, but no one has told me that I can be casual so I'm suiting up.

Why don't you guys just ask the recruiting person or your mentor if the firm sets you up with one of those?

My firm is smaller so I don't have either of those. I asked a friend who worked there and he recommended suiting up first day and then going from there.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
