Were you not aware of the disparity in market pay when you were an SA or is there more to your story?
I wouldn't mind the disparity if we were all overpaid like at biglaw. I was actually an SA at a big firm but was not offered a spot.

Either way, I feel sorry for the firm that gave you the offer. :|
No this is my first real job.

The hard part is landing an SA, not getting the offer afterwards; I wouldn't blame the economy on the no-offer. You've had opportunities that a lot of people on here would kill for.

Even your $85k job is still an awesome offer, especially since you won't have to pay as much in living expenses and what not as a NYC biglaw job. A lot of people don't realize how much $85k actually is (and I guess it might seem low in comparison to $160k, but it is still more than most people in this country will ever make in a year). Read this and just be thankful you have something.
How long do I have to wait until I can lateral? And can I lateral into biglaw?

In asking for an estimate. Clearly I can't leave as soon as I start. Although I think I'm still going to keep looking until I start in September. At least they pay for bar exam stuff.

I'm interested why you're so anxious to return to an environment that has already rejected you once. You have an awesome deal in front of you. Focus on doing well in the job you have an offer for, and if you still don't like it in a few years, then start thinking about other options.

Why is he entitled to humane conditions and treatment - I thought this was a job at a law firm?

Also, I am 100% sure that this thread is flame.

I will be shocked if OP lasts long enough to lateral into anything, let alone biglaw.

Newish account, plus nobody can possibly be this oblivious to the way the world works.
At bigger firms, more experienced associates bill higher rates and get more money. At my firm now, all associates bill the same. So...

I plan to bring it up once I have some lateral leverage. I'm powerless now and they know it. Hence the low pay.

If I stumbled into your position after being no-offered, I'd be happy as fuck. And I think that most others would be too. I'm not quite sure what your issue

Might just be a case of falling from grace. I went into a T10 expecting big law and making a substantial investment. Oh well.

This thread should be stickied as an example of why K-JDs who have never worked before should not to pay sticker to go to a T14.

Expectations <---------GAP---------> Reality

The gap is large.
Reminds me of a conversation I had a few weeks ago, where this girl was explaining that when interviewing new college grads just about every one of them asked if or how fat they could become managers
