The 2013 grad heard back Thursday and submitted within the first two weeks of Feb. The 3L also heard back Wed/Thur and applied the last week. I'm not really sure what that indicates-- if they have already reviewed all applications and are calling in order of who they think is the most qualified or they are simply at the tail end. Hope that brings someone some clarity, peace of mind. I hope someone else has any feedback because my news/update was not reassuring to me, at all.

Do you have an idea of what kind of credentials they had? i.e. Clerkships? Extensive experience? Top law school or class rank? Thanks so much for your post!

OP: source.

The committee is wrapping up, still interviewing people though. Hang in there!

Through the grapevine (friends who have had interviews/friends of friends who have had interviews) I have heard that they are finishing interviews this week and will be selecting their fellows by the end of next week. I suspect that means they are not scheduling anymore interviews :(

They're definitely not done yet. I just got the email inviting me to interview tonight.

For all of you who have been selected to interview, can you share with us some of your experience? Congratulations and best of luck to all.

I don't think they are done yet. This is from the FAQ on the website:

"We hope to complete our selection of Justice Fellows by April 15, 2014, and our selection of Community Fellows by June 1,
2014. All applicants will be notified when all decisions have been made. In addition, once the selection process is complete,
the fellows selected will be announced on the website. Until that point, the process will be ongoing. Please only email to
inquire about our timeline if you have another offer to which you need to respond."

I emailed them on Monday April 1, 2014, and they said they were scheduling interviews this week. However they did not tell me they did not receive my letters of recommendation. When I followed up with my references they said they never received a link from IJC. Today I emailed them again. They are anticipating to make selections by April 15. Do I even have a chance of getting an interview at this point? :(

The fellowship did make it very clear that is your responsibility to make sure all three letters are in and that applications are not complete until those are in. Based on that information, I feel like it is very unlikely your application has been reviewed :-/

I'm not sure whether to keep hoping for an email notifying me for an interview or not anymore. It is so late in the game and I'm sure many of you are feeling the frustration that your application was probably not even looked at.

Good luck to everyone who got interviews and those still waiting!

I know one person who got a call, but what makes you say that was all of the offers?

I got a fellowship and know a few others who did too.

I know for a fact that all the offers have gone out, and the vast majority of people have accepted. They are planning to announce the final list this week.

I don't want to get too detailed because I'd rather not be identified, but: I go to a T14. My resume is a pretty strong indicator that I am 100% dedicated to immigrants rights work - I did some volunteer stuff in college in low income immigrant communities, and then had a related job after college. In law school I did immigration work one summer and a term-time immigration internship. Other internships I had were not immigration per se but dealt with low income immigrants. They didn't ask for a transcript, but my grades are decent, not stellar. Top 30% of my class, but not one of these straight A types. I also have immigrant parents.

Thank you! This is helpful.

ETA: Are ties to NYC important? Mine are rather tenuous.

It would probably help, but there are fellows coming from other parts of the country who, I believe, have minimal ties to NYC.

I got a fellowship, so I hope this helps. Obviously being fairly generic due to not wanting to ID myself. In law school I did an immigration clinic and volunteered with an immigration org, and I did immigration work in college as well. However, my resume wasn't 100% immigration-focused; most of my law school work experience was public defense. For law school performance, the most I'll say is that it's good (but not straight A). As for law school "caliber", you can see from the recently released list of fellows that only 15 out of 25 are T14, so clearly there's no requirement to be in a T14 school (for good reason!). My ties to NYC are fairly close, though I have no idea how much that has to do with it.

Good luck applying next year! It looks like it'll be a wonderful two years, I am very happy to have gotten the fellowship.

Thanks! Glad to see that they recruit outside the T14.

To those who got accepted, congrats.

Just wondering, what were some of topics/issues that they asked during the interview?

Thank you.

They didn't ask for transcripts.

The topics were normal - why you're interested in the field of law, language skills, experience, how it fits into your career path.

I've been trying to contact the fellowship office through e-mail and phone, but no response. Is anyone experiencing this as well? Anyone know what's going on?

I thought I would revive this for the 2014-15 application cycle.

When does the application open up? When is the deadline?

Just submitted my app on Friday. And now starts the waiting game, although thankfully it looks like they are planning to move quickly.

Anyone else also waiting with me?

I'm waiting too! Submitted my app Nov. 1, all three letters of recommendation submitted as of Nov. 12.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
