SO's family is extremely connected in texas and she is pushing really hard to go there. I do not have grades for tex big law but would this be the kind of job that could happen with a couple of calls to influential family friends?

I've worked in-house at a major for 3 years. As a previous post suggested, in-house work involves managing broker projects, securing title opinions from outside counsel, negotiating and drafting various contracts/conveyances w/ in-house counsel assistance, ensuring compliance with existing contractual obligations, monitoring competitor activity, identifying acquisition/divestment opportunities w/ technical teams, acreage trades, etc.

I am assuming the demand for landmen is tied to demand, is there any idea how long this boom will last at least on the end where the landman would being doing his/her work? After Texas will this work shift somewhere else and to what extend are state-to-state barriers for a landman to pack up and move to another state?

Weird that people are trolling this thread. The practice area might be pretty small but there's no info about it on TLS and even for people like me who have no interest in this type of work it's cool to learn about. But yeah, let's ask about the Taliban instead of appreciating that he's taking time to contribute to the forum.

any more info on these particular field? More specifically, how long will this career last?

My fear is gaining experience as a landman and then the wells dry up and I am left high and dry.

The AAPL (American Association of Professional Landmen) links out to this resource, seems pretty comprehensive.
