I have a friend who had a Quinn CB. Some people at NYU have offers (not sure which office).

Boies is a wasted bid at 14, right? I think you have to have them right at the top. This is anecdotal, so someone back me up on this.

Can someone talk to me about writing samples? Do all firms require them? Just a few?

Both at the screeners and at call-backs. I vaguely remember someone saying that NY firms care less about writing samples - that many skip them entirely. But, any guidance would be nice.

Seems like a few firms mention them in the eiw module (k&l gates ny, for example) - but most don't.

Only a few firms require writing samples in New York, although it's something you see more often in secondary markets. Some firms will want them at the screener level and some will want them at the callback level. I've never heard of an interviewer reading your writing sample before the interview and asking questions about it or anything like that. You should feel free to use your lawyering memo or any substantive legal analysis you produced during your 1L summer, assuming you've cleared it with your employer and excerpted it to meet employer length limits (usually 10 pages, double-spaced). If you have the time, editing and making minor revisions is always helpful, though there are more important things to do if you find yourself in early August trying to cram for EIW.

NYU rising 3L here. Anon because of Career Services generally liking to run the ship in terms of advice.

Simpson, Davis Polk, and Cravath can all likely be lower - these are enormous class sizes at V10 firms that many will opt out of bidding. Shearman and a few others in the 20s/30s probably need to be moved up substantially to be sure to get them. Paul Weiss might be nudged higher.

Also 3.67 means you're in an amazingly strong position. Assuming the goal is NYC big law, no reason not to include Wachtell in there and see what happens, unless you know you don't want them.

I bid aggressively (high GPA) and only got 18 screeners but I got almost all the firms I wanted, hoping to pick up a couple off waitlist. Anyone know where Paul Hastings and Kramer Levin went?

23 all NYC. 20 out of top 20. Out of the tougher firms of possible interest, got Milbank at 10, White & Case at 11, Fried Frank at 12

22 screeners, but only 13 out of my first 20. Missed Proskauer at 6 and Paul Hastings at 9. Not upset at the number of screeners, but definitely a little sad about only getting 13/20.
