Y'all speak before being given explicit permission to address your superiors?

Bolded for clarity. Don't want people getting confused.
What if I'm on a call with somebody overseas.

Does my greeting need to reflect the status of the sun relative to them or to me?

Great question. I'd greet them as appropriate given the sun in relation to them. Then, I'd follow-up light-heartedly about how amusing it is that its morning for him/her and afternoon for you. Certainly, you want to be deferential regarding sun positioning. It would be very presumptuous of you, and potentially deal-breaking, to say "Good Morning" to someone over the phone who is well into their afternoon.

I know you're just kidding, but, if I was the person making the call, I'd greet based on their time. If they're calling me, "this is dingbat" should suffice

Touche... although the pencil thread at least gave [a TINY bit of] practical information. This is straight up "how to be a human, 101."
