This must be either Hogan or Covington, correct? Any other dates for DC firms?

Re: Start dates- class of 2013
Higher V rank ~ larger class size ~ more flexibility on start dates. Most V10 at least will give new associates a few different options for start dates. Otherwise, probably not? Maybe a slight bias towards later start dates further down, but it's pretty random (even from year-to-year at some firms).Anonymous User wrote:Does V rank correspond with this at all? Who? Well, for starters, apparently every participant in this thread who added a start date without a firm name (e.g., via V##).Anonymous User wrote:Why? Who gives a shit that they anonymously "out" their firm's start date.
Also, it's not complete anon—admins, mods, and future mods can see through the anon feature. Who knows who else might see through it in the future. Plus my firm isn't broadcasting/making their start date googleable, so I won't either.
And why are you rudely complaining via anon? Think it's going to persuade me or future anon posters to out their firm? Recalculate. http://www.amazon.com/How-Win-Friends-I ... 0671027034

As I understand it (I may be wrong).
My firm gives us a choice of starting anytime between September and January. Is that not normal?

Still haven't heard yet. Rumors of possible late October start and a stipend or salary advance. Any other V100 NYC firms receive these offers? I have a family and am trying to prepare for the summer.

Any Davis Polk people around? We filled out our preferences for Sept/Oct/Nov start dates and practice groups about a month ago. Any word as to when we hear back?

I don't know when you'll hear this year, but last year it was some time in late april / early may (before graduation).Anonymous User wrote:Any Davis Polk people around? Is this considered "summer" at most firms? We were told that we also would not find out until "early summer", but then heard rumors that this could also mean the week before graduation in May.imchuckbass58 wrote:I don't know when you'll hear this year, but last year it was some time in late april / early may (before graduation).Anonymous User wrote:Any Davis Polk people around? well, it's good to know that it's not coming any minute now so I can stop holding my breath! I missed the part where they told us "early summer." I would be pretty surprised if you got a stipend/salary advance (outside of bar $) for a late October start, which doesn't seem to be uncommon at all ITT.Anonymous User wrote:Still haven't heard yet. My V15 got a 10k advance for all start dates. With the possibility of 12-18k more for the Oct/Nov start dates if you opted for that.5ky wrote:I would be pretty surprised if you got a stipend/salary advance (outside of bar $) for a late October start, which doesn't seem to be uncommon at all ITT.Anonymous User wrote:Still haven't heard yet. Re: Start dates- class of 2013
We can hope! I'm still skeptical. I am hoping to find out before graduation so I can at least enjoy it a little more. I stalked the 2012 boards from last year and some people had not heard in June. I also heard that most NYC firms were giving stipends or advances. One person I know has already received their start date, stipend comes in June and has been offered a fellowship for August with an 8k stipend...and yet we still wait.Anonymous User wrote:well, it's good to know that it's not coming any minute now so I can stop holding my breath! Wait, is this a DPW person who knows their start date and when the stipend will come, or someone from another firm?!

If you were given a choice between varying start dates and you choose the latest one, will you look lazy or bad in any other way? (assuming you don't need the money)

If you don't need the money, take the latest date you can. Stub year generally doesn't count for anything and this will be the last time you will get an actual vacation until you quit BigLaw.
If you are nervous about it, choose the latest date but add that if there are any problems with that date you can rearrange your plans.

No, I have no clue of my start date or when the stipend will come. Also not from DPW. Just have heard rumors and also looked back to previous years and what firms have done in the past.
