I reset my password and logged in and it now shows I am a semi-finalist.

Rats, I just reset my password and my application status still just says "application received." Congratulations to you! Hopefully the rest of us will have good news coming shortly.

Selected as semi-finalist. Must say that after being through DOJ Honors & selected as a finalist, I am anticipating another long wait.

Congrats to all those chosen though - here's to a long process!

Does anyone know if biglaw firms generally offer deferrals for incoming associates to do PMF? Curious.

I don't understand why they would... the point of being a PMF is to get permanent employment with the federal government, right? Obviously nothing's forcing you to stay in government past the two-year fellowship, but since this is intended as a pathway into federal service, I think it would look really weird to ask to go back to a firm after. (Obviously the firm may not care as much as the feds would, but it still seems counter to the whole point of the program.)

They won't. PMF is non-legal and, while difficult to get, is not nearly as elite as a federal clerkship or DOJ honors, so a trip through PMF won't provide a firm with new skills or additional bragging rights when you return.
