Are you guys hearing from NY/NJ area offices? Those were my preferences, but I'd presume they are overwhelmed with storm recovery?

Re: HUD Legal Honors Program
Got invited to interview today in a field office that I did not list as a preference. (I did not check the "no preference" box, either.) Has this happened to anyone else?

Mine was in my first listed field office area (midatlantic). I sent an email to the general question address to inquire about changing preferences, if interviewing at an office means potential placement at that office, etc. I'll let you all know if/when I hear back what they say.

Is Chicago the closest field office to you?Anonymous User wrote:Nope. ChicagoAnonymous User wrote:Are you guys hearing from NY/NJ area offices? Those were my preferences, but I'd presume they are overwhelmed with storm recovery?
Maybe they are interviewing wherever is closest, which would explain the person who was contacted by an office they didn't list as a preference.

Re: HUD Legal Honors Program
Does everyone just interview at their closest regional office? Is the office we interview at the only one where we can be placed?
Question: would it be bad/disrespectful to ask about this at the interview? And indicate that I would prefer a different, specific office (Boston) if possible?
Edit: I received an email that everyone interviews at their most local office, but that isn't necessarily tied to where you are placed. They ask your preferences at a later date if they are interested in you.

Was anyone told when decisions will be made in their interview? I know the last day of interviews in one regional office is tomorrow (Nov. 20).

I was told that interviews will go through Nov. 26 and that decisions will be made before the holiday break in December.Anonymous User wrote:Was anyone told when decisions will be made in their interview? I know the last day of interviews in one regional office is tomorrow (Nov. 20).

Re: HUD Legal Honors Program
It seemed as if the questions were standardized across all the interviews, so I'm not going to share what they were like because that would be pretty unfair to those who had to go in cold (I know I would feel like my answers were a lot better if I could have prepared a bit more ahead of time).Anonymous User wrote:Aw don't lose hope until you hear a decision!Anonymous User wrote:My interview didn't go very well. Wow, I thought HUD usually didn't make offers until mid-January or so? I didn't ask in my interview because I thought that was their usual MO.

The regional director I spoke to voluntary shared the timeline with me at the beginning of my interview. They said that and that they make every effort to place people where they want to be and with an area that they're interested in.Anonymous User wrote:Wow, I thought HUD usually didn't make offers until mid-January or so? They were standard interview questions (i.e., what made you want to apply to HUD, etc). The questions mainly were focused on why HUD, so you need to do your homework on HUD (i.e., know HUD mission statement, what HUD does (affordable housing, fight homelessness, etc). Best advice is to read as much as you can about HUD and what it does for the interview.
