missed a call while in class from hiring partner. short vm. called back- "you are still in the mix, hang in there with us."

This is cruel. To everybody else out there: all calls I have received (5 total) have been offers.Anonymous User wrote:missed a call while in class from hiring partner. short vm. called back- "you are still in the mix, hang in there with us."

Re: Missed call
That sucks! I do not understand why firms do this. While I can understand where they think they are being nice, they are actually being more hurtful by toying with our emotions and getting us worked up and excited....

Re: Missed call
Someone really needs to write an open letter to all firms explaining that phone rejections are the worst idea in the history of mankind.
Wait, actually, NALP should step in and add a rule banning this.

Re: Missed call
Was literally just thinking this. I think personal emails are a nice gesture, but the phone call is just too much. Isn't it incredibly awkward for them, too?Anonymous User wrote:Someone really needs to write an open letter to all firms explaining that phone rejections are the worst idea in the history of mankind.

Re: Missed call
(OP again) I dunno about the call. After spending half a day and eating a meal with people, a form letter is kinda impersonal. That said, I reaallly would appreciate a heads up email haha.

Sorry to hear that OP! That's cruel. I realize it's more "personal" (which I guess is nice) but I'd rather not get my hopes up and then have them crushed. Send me a personalized e-mail instead!

Re: Missed call
I've never understood phone call rejections unless the firm/partner/associate takes some secret enjoyment out of someone else's sadness.

Re: Missed call
E-mail is definitely the way to go for rejections. Snail mail is pretty horrible too if you're trying to decide between firms. Three extra days of stress for no good reason.

OP: I am so sorry :'(
Just curious, to everyone who has had the horrific experience of a heart skipping a beat when [desired firm] calls, only to hear "not offer" and then realize you've struck out at OCI?
i imagine i'd become curt and choke back my tears. i'm waiting to hear from two callbacks i did like a month ago.......sigh. everytime i check my mailbox im afraid of the thin envelope. now i realize i need to fear calls, too.
