Alright dipshit, how about repost in ten months. Happy now?Anonymous User wrote:In a year, OCI will be over.
Agree to disagree on Chicago. I think a median T6 student that wants Chicago should be able to get Chicago.

I'm sure most would get one, but a bunch wouldn't. Once you fall below the grade level for KE, Sidley, or MB, the class sizes are small and the firms are fairly selective.ChiefPresidentTaft wrote:Alright dipshit, how about repost in ten months. Ties to a market might be the most overhyped advice on TLS. Do they matter? Sure, maybe. But just figure out what market you want and be able to tell a convincing story why you want it. The people that get in trouble are the ones that bid 4 markets and then tell their Chicago interviewer that they want to work in Chicago because they want to practice international law in a big city. Having real and convincing reasons why you want a particular market is ten times better than having a great aunt that lives in Lincoln Park.IAFG wrote:Depends on ties.ChiefPresidentTaft wrote:Alright dipshit, how about repost in ten months. I'd go all in for Chicago. If you have good grades and want DC, go all in for DC.Anonymous User wrote:OP here. Thanks Taft, point taken. Let's just say that I have an "in" to the Chicago market, and it involves a degree from the University of Chicago.
Re: the prematurity of this thread, I'd rather figure this out now than I would when things kick into gear for finals in December and for legal writing memos/summer employment in the spring. The beef of prematurity shouldn't make your advice any different, especially given that the legal landscape wont change much over the course of 6 or 8 or 10 months. Thanks for the honest opinions, and,for the record, I am having my fifth drink of the night
LOL no. Striking out in DC from T6 with well above median grades happens all the time.DallasCowboy wrote:You go to a T6. Go get a job in the markets you want. Nothing will stop you from getting one if you get OK grades and do everything else right.
Nah, doing information interviews is extremely smart and I wish I had done that. But I'd say second semester is probably the better time to do so than like a couple of weeks into classes.thelaststraw05 wrote:The most underrated advice on TLS is networking. I am median at Michigan and have an offer in Chicago and 6 CBs in DC largely because I did a few dozen informational interviews during 1L.
Is that being a "striver" or an "OCI gunner?" yes. But it got me an offer, so I don't regret it at all.
