Re: Skadden 3L Callbacks/Offers
I received an offer a couple weeks ago. I am at CCN, median first year, top 15-20% second year, secondary journal board + chosen for publication, V50 SA this summer with permanent offer. I don't think anyone will want to say which firm they were at because s/he was likely the only one.Anonymous User wrote:Stats for those with offers/callbacks? Right, I meant firm type/range. Did you not like your SA firm or are you moving up for the prestige/opportunities at Skadden?Anonymous User wrote:I received an offer a couple weeks ago. Re: Skadden 3L Callbacks/Offers
I did like my summer firm and agonized over the decision but basically the department I really wanted was much stronger at Skadden. It was not about prestige; I only applied to firms that were stronger in my department than my summer firm, not just every firm that is more "prestigious" than my summer firm. There are many V20 firms (eg, Latham, Weil, White&Case to name a few) that I would not choose over my V50. The hardest thing was leaving some strong relationships I developed over the summer.Anonymous User wrote:Right, I meant firm type/range. I do think that I am someone Skadden would have considered had I interviewed with them during 2L hiring. I was so nervous about getting a job that I bid extremely conservatively for 2L hiring, which basically meant that I wasted half my bids since if you bid on, say, Jones Day, Shearman, Schulte, Kramer Levin, etc in the bottom half of your bid list, you probably are not going to get them because everyone bids on the firms that are less grade selective. I should have put some "reach" firms in the bottom half of my list, and, if I had done that, I would have bid on Skadden because they fit my goals. I thought I had no shot at Skadden from median at CCN, but later on I saw that about half the offers Skadden gave at my school went to students in the top third, but the other half went to (obviously) people below the top third. I was a bit above median and not that far from top third, and I have some other plus factors on my resume that I am not mentioning because they might out me if I have not outed myself already, LOL. I don't regret going to the V50 and really enjoyed my summer and the people I met, but I do think it is easier to start at your summer firm rather than switching to a different firm after you summer.

Corporate.
For those asking for stats ~3.9 at T-20ish, had an offer from my V-30 summer associate position.

Yes, I can't think of any reasons to turn it down (though HR at my summer associate firm is trying to show me some).Anonymous User wrote:Have you accepted/will you accept?Anonymous User wrote:Corporate.

Is Skadden's 3L hiring generally for domestic offices, or will they consider 3Ls for foreign offices?

I doubt it at this point, I am almost certain they are just filling specific needs. But if you start domestically and have language skills/experience I am sure you would have the chance to move elsewhere later.

I had a screener with their NY office last week. No news, and they originally said to expect a response in a few days. Expecting a ding any day now. Definitely unfortunate, as I really like the firm.

Thanks. I was at a V15 this past summer. At a T10 school, LR, 1st year grades were top third, 2nd year grades were top 10%.Anonymous User wrote:Congratulations! Had one interview that I thought went terribly--the interviewer ended it early and asked me weird questions like "Why would you want to do what I do? Most people think it's terrible."

Not sure what you mean. The offer call came from one of the folks I interviewed with on my CB.Anonymous User wrote:Congratulations. The folks who set up my initial interview were TV and CF.

That is exactly what I was asking for, thanks. Symplicity usually lists the name of the contact, I was just curious as to whether the person I sent my info too had started contacting people.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
