No TY notes post screeners; maybe after a callback depending on how well you clicked.

I wrote TY notes post callback for most firms--especially towards the beginning. I then got lazy. Ended up summering at one where I did and one where I didn't.

In a discussion about screeners, a Weil (NY) partner matter of factly stated to a friend of mine that she had two pet peeves, one of which was people not sending thank you notes post interviews.

I don't understand why you wouldn't. I sent thank you emails not only to my interviewers, but also to the recruiters. All have sent me back very kind responses.

I'll report back if I get any callbacks.

They went well. Now just waiting for a cb.

Thank you for asking. I appreciate it.

The only thank you note I sent was to follow up on a question I couldn't answer during the interview on Tuesday. I sent it about 2 hours after the interview. I got a call back next day.

I didn't write a single thank-you note at OCI even though our Career Services told us we should. I had mediocre grades at a lower T14, no work experience, and got 12 callbacks. Don't write a thank you after a screener. After a callback is up for debate, I'm still not going to.

By the time they get your thank you note they probably already filled out their evaluation. Plus ultimately the decision to CB/Offer is up to the "hiring committee"...whoever they are.

I generally agree with this. I send thank yous after screeners very sparingly if I can tell the interviewers would appreciate them (e.g. smaller firm, market consideration, just a general-vibe). However, I've gotten CBs from firms w/o thank yous too so that's that.

Our Career Services said to send thank yous during OCI too. To me this is pretty irrational sending like 10 thank yous a day (that are proofread to hell b/c of grammar dinging a candidate) and some in the afternoon after a 9AM interview when they've probably made up their mind already.

I have not written a single thank you note throughout the process. 13 callbacks (have gone on 5), and 3 offer so far. Lawyers, particularly at big law firms, are busy and don't want a thank you email.

It can't help you, but it can certainly hurt you if you send one with a spelling error, etc.
