Yes, they have a large class.manofjustice wrote:I am a little confused by the hiring grid. If I want to know how large the 2L summer class is going to be in 2012, I go to expected, 2012, summer, 2L, and Paul Weiss shows a summer class of 106? Re: 2012 Penn OCI Thread
Penn 3L here, I lurked on these threads a lot last year but I rarely (if ever) actually post. Thought I would weigh in and give back for current lurkers. FYI currently summering in NYC; had a multitude of offers in NYC and a couple of other markets.manofjustice wrote:Generally there is a correlation, but post-crash, median class sizes fell by about a third, from 12 to 8. So 2011 was 9, IIRC. So, ya know, we are waiting here for a rebound...r6_philly wrote:I assume most classes will be similar. Practice groups fluctuate, and some firms are doing better than others. So there may be variations but I expect over all it's about similar.PennBull wrote:Is there generally solid correlation between the sizes of summer classes from year to year? In other words, can we use the #s for the sizes of 2012 summers and just assume they'll be the same or pretty close?
So, be aware of firms with smaller classes.
You should definitely rely on past years class sizes when you are creating your bid list. Firms don't necessarily have the same class size every year because class sizes fluctuate a lot (especially in recent years) based on the economy. But firms that had the biggest class sizes for 2012 are very likely to have the biggest class sizes next year as well (regardless of whether all class sizes go up or down). Likewise, firms that have small class sizes this year are also likely to have small class sizes next year (even if all class sizes increase by 10%). You shouldn't be targeting firms with a specific class size anyway; you need to bid on firms with large classes generally. Generally speaking, it is safe for you to assume that firms with the largest classes this year will also be the firms with the largest classes next year, regardless of whether the actual numbers are similar to this year.

Resisting the urge to use up my last 15 bids on firms/regions that I know I won't be interested in.

Ouch. Would be hilarious if firms could see the evolution of their bid rank in each student's list. Panicking and moving up firms I really want but thought I could get with low bids, shattering my bid planPennBull wrote:I am not resisting that urge haha. My last 20 or so bids are literally just shots in the dark at random firms I know nothing about. I have no idea how someone could seriously be interested in 60 different firms.dpk711 wrote:Resisting the urge to use up my last 15 bids on firms/regions that I know I won't be interested in.

Re: 2012 Penn OCI Thread
There were 13 firms I care about a lot. Ordered them in my top 13. After that, it's just names and ampersands that don't mean shit to me. They all pay market (or at least the 60 I bid), I want to do anything corporate, and I only want to be in NYC. No need to get picky.r6_philly wrote:I literally bid the V20. So my entire bid strategy was based on how can I get the most interviews. Interview slot sizes/estimated popularity. I'll worry about how much I like the firm when I get the interviews.

If we haven't heard yet about journals, does that mean we did not make journals? Or is the review process ongoing? Even if we really screwed up, we would still know if we didn't make any journals?

Journal info is supposed to be released later this month, I believe. I also think that if you put in at least a quarter-decent effort, it's almost impossible not to get something.Anonymous User wrote:If we haven't heard yet about journals, does that mean we did not make journals? Re: 2012 Penn OCI Thread
I looked through some old Penn OCI threads on here, and after the wait lists some people had over 30 interviews. One specifically said in 2010 that they got 10 interviews from the wait list. How many firms are you going on the wait list for?
