Anyways, has anyone ever got a biglaw job that didnt verify past employment/references after an offer was received?

Yes. V100, background and conflicts checks, but never called past employers (maybe they verified some other way?).

I didn't read any of this shit besides OP poast, but past threads have listed firms that do background checks...I would say about 1/5 of them rough guess....seems alot of V20+ firms.

Unless your law firm hires a high-end background check firm, all they do is call HR or use an automated employment verification service to check your dates and position. It is quite expensive to hire a firm to do reference calls and it doesn't make sense either for lower-level employees.

Interesting, but what do people do when there is no HR (small 2-man operation) or when the position is unpaid or qualifies as "self-employment" (no W-2s)? Do you even have to list those jerbs?

Yes, people list those - you don't have to, but if you have a gap in your employment that would draw attention, you want to list it. It is entirely possible that the background check firm calls your former employer, and the guy is a jerk on the phone. But I would bet that in that case the law firm will call you to ask for your side of the story. Why are you losing sleep over this? What's done is done - employment was on the resume, they may or may not call, you don't really have much control over it.
