Dechert's LA office recently opened up, and they pulled out of OCI at the schools there because they weren't sure of what their hiring needs were going to be for next summer. I would imagine by the end of this (calendar) year or the beginning of next, they will be looking for at least 1 summer associate. Keep in touch with them.

It is not too late to be mass-mailing, even in major markets, although every passing day makes the prospects a bit more bleak. If you're still looking for an SA position, get on it.

I mass mailed 75 Chicago Firms the past two days. The next two days will be DC. Then NYC. I will email every single firm in America if I have to. If that doesn't work I don't know what will.

I would call firm's first, you find out if they are hiring within 1 minute. Yes, I know 75% of the recruiters won't answer, but I just call the general firm number and ask for someone in recruiting. I usually end up getting someone who knows if they're class is full or not. I'm doing the same as you, 70 firms between NY & DC over this past weekend. I'm just saying that we're not so late in the game that the ring of desperation of listing firms that are still granting interviews, as if there were few of them, is necessary (although it's obviously a good thing for those still looking).Anonymous User wrote:No shit, bro.Anonymous User wrote:It is not too late to be mass-mailing, even in major markets, although every passing day makes the prospects a bit more bleak. Take home point: keep mailing firms that aren't listed here as well. I've been pleasantly surprised in my efforts toward that end. The guy two posts up has the right idea, and I'd be surprised if he didn't find a vault firm, absent something like unforgivably horrible interview skills.

Did they tell you this with an offer or rejection. I hope this isn't true. I interviewed friday and the hiring partner said he will be out of the office until wednesday so don't excpect to hear back. Sorry man, that's rough. I have to imagine that if you had a CB with them and haven't heard back that you're still in the running. Perhaps the hiring partner meant that they were finished bringing in candidates to interview and would have enough candidates- between those who accepted offers, those with offers outstanding, and those who have CB'd but not been offered yet- to fill up their class. Best of luck!Anonymous User wrote:Did they tell you this with an offer or rejection. I hope this isn't true. How does one even go about applying to FF London? I wrote their London office like I would a normal US one and they didn't really seem to know what to do with my application.Anonymous User wrote:Mayer Brown DC is looking for an SA interested in tax. I did the same, I got a response from the UK Trainee people thinking I was applying for that.Anonymous User wrote:How does one even go about applying to FF London? Same issue with Freshfields. Applied specifically to the London office to the recruiting contact listed in London for the US summer program and received an email back with them thinking I was applying for a UK trainee contract. Don't really know how to go about resending my materials or correcting their mistake but I really want to work in the London office

Latham Chicago has made a few calls asking people to come in for screeners. Looks like they're not getting the yield they expected.

Anyone know the typical criteria for Freshfields?

Do you mind elaborating? Which patent firms/which type of patent firms (size, location)?Anonymous User wrote:Most patent firms are hiring year round... but you needs uspto/BS degree
I'm BS engineering, USPTO, T20, median with several biglaw callbacks behind me, decent interviewing skills, but no large firm or large IP boutique offers. just offers at two small, patent-only practices (less than 10 lawyers - type places). Getting pretty frustrated with the whole IPSECURE notion on this board and among older attorneys/alumni/CSO.
World isn't exactly ending for me, but i'd love to squeeze my way into biglaw if its still possible.

Biglaw, even for patent gigs, follows the regular schedule. He's talking about midsize/smaller patent boutiques for 3Ls.Anonymous User wrote:Do you mind elaborating? However it is significantly easier for patent attorneys to lateral to biglaw. It just depends on your technical background and what they need at the time.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
