Does anyone have a feel for the financial stability of these firms? I know that a few of them had a lot of layoffs a few years ago (although that hardly makes them unique). Would it be crazy to choose say, Linklaters or A&O over a more stable V15 firm?

Re: Magic Circle Firms in US
not sure about the finances - but being outposts for a firm located elsewhere, I would imagine that they would have an incentive to reduce costs at a firm abroad rather than a flagship office. Purely speculation though.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone have a feel for the financial stability of these firms? I think a stable V15 is probably the safer bet, because the profitability of the truly global firms rests on a risky assumption that other countries dont change laws that would affect their ability to practice in those countries....

Actually during the recession in 2009, Linklaters slashed 100+ attorneys in London, but only laid off 5 attorneys in the US office. Go figure.Anonymous User wrote:not sure about the finances - but being outposts for a firm located elsewhere, I would imagine that they would have an incentive to reduce costs at a firm abroad rather than a flagship office. I don't know about A&O but Linklaters did not lay off NY associates during the financial crisis. They laid off about 270 associates in London though.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone have a feel for the financial stability of these firms?
