I actually wish it would be the end of next week, so I don't have to explain why I have no journals...

I got 12, all NY. My first 30-35 picks were NY, the remainder DC. All of my interviews, except for one, are within my top 20 bids, and I got the majority of my top 10.

Fingers crossed that journal comes out today...

Just outta curiosity, has anyone tried calling the journal office to ask about results?

You all should feel free to send cover letters/resume/maybe transcript to the firms you didn't get interviews with. I added about 10 interviews that way last year.

You all should feel free to send cover letters/resume/maybe transcript to the firms you didn't get interviews with. I added about 10 interviews that way last year.

did you do this for firms in your top 20?

Straight NYC bidding, lots of research behind the bid list:
17 interviews, 15 NYC...13 of my top 16 bids, 2 additional NYC offices between 20-30. Sort of surprised not more secondary market bids as I put them pretty high (mid-20s to low 30s).

Yes. Arguably Georgetown's #2 journal (American Crim Law Review would contest that though).

I have had two attorneys this summer tell me to preference crim second. I think there is room for argument over #2.

I got 18. Did not get my 2nd choice but then did get my 31st. Exclusively NYC
and secondary market (Delaware) beyond bid #6.

Fair enough. In reality there is journal and then 1000 prestige points later are the other journals.

ACLR and Tax are strong journals in their respective fields. I had an attorney at one firm last year tell me that he thinks ACLR is the only one that matters (he was a prosecutor). Either way, getting on journal depends on the subjective perceptions of your work by a rising 3L, and not everyone likes the same thing. Obviously OJA has a process for limiting the influence of one grader or another, but it's not completely scientific. It's a check mark on your resume. If you are a strong candidate otherwise, no firm is going to care about journals. I was never asked during my entire SA if I'm on main or something else. It doesn't matter in practice at all. Maybe judges care more, but even then...

Thinking about trying to "trade" one of my DC offices for an NY office. also wondering if I want to go through with the LA interview considering scheduling.

I got 7. My bidding was mostly NYC with some DC and Chicago in there, but my top five bids were in secondary markets.

Ultimately, I got 5 secondaries and 2 NYC.

I got my 1-5, which were my secondaries. After that, I got 11 and 18, both NYC firms.

Anyone else have 9 interviews in one day??? That's half my OCI in an eight hour span...

Do you think having good grades (top 2%) is enough to offset the fact that I only made ACLR for the high end firms in DC (i.e. W&C)? Or am I out as soon as they see I didn't make the actual law review?

First, congratulations on doing so well. And I would basically want to say unequivocally yes. Of course your academic performance is going to speak for itself. The fact that you are asking that question is just symptomatic of this process and how we all freak out over the stupidest thing. W & C is going to focus more on the fact that you did extremely well and journal may not even come up. Just present yourself well. If an interviewer asks why you aren't on main (I had one do this to me last year), just be honest and say that we have a write-on competition, so it's not based on grades, and you aren't privy to how you did exactly. Otherwise, just say here's an updated resume and that's it.

And again, ACLR is extremely respected -- especially on the litigation side of things at WC is all about. Every USAO office has at least a few copies of the annual review on hand. It's important.

In the same position as original questioner, except Tax Lawyer. Don't care about doing a journal at all in particular - want to quit ASAP and would have put up with main journal only for prestige. Simply not interested, but want top job. Any idea what my gameplan should be, and what this means? Unfortunately put, "journal not yet decided" on resume submitted thru OCI; how should I cope during interviews?
