I'm normally deadset against living in the suburbs and commuting in, but I think I would make an exception for DC and live far out in VA/MD/WV and take the train in if I ever worked there.

I don't know if this would be helpful, but I do this currently. I wear an undershirt and the pant, and put on the shirt and the jacket after I get to my office.

I've thought about it but always feel weird walking into work in a T-shirt, even if I am changing in 5 minutes.tea_drinker wrote:I don't know if this would be helpful, but I do this currently. I wear an undershirt and the pant, and put on the shirt and the jacket after I get to my office.

Re: i hate dc in the summer
I was on the way home from work one July day a few years ago, and the air conditioning in the subway car wasn't working. And there were no windows, of course. It was a special, slow kind of awful. The 90 degree heat felt so good when I got out.

Re: i hate dc in the summer
This is the first thread I've started on TLS, I'm so proud of myself! Someone give me a cookie!
On the metro last week, one young-faced man was talking to his female cohort (likely both interns, college-aged) in a high-and-mighty voice about reviewing some other person's work and how he critiqued the shit out of it and the quality was far less than his and everything, and I was just thinking, "bitch, please, who are you?" At least the ac was working that day in the metro.

yea i did that once and felt a little weird, but I might start doing that again. Even with the jacket off and sleeves rolled up I sweat like crazy.Aston2412 wrote:I've thought about it but always feel weird walking into work in a T-shirt, even if I am changing in 5 minutes.tea_drinker wrote:I don't know if this would be helpful, but I do this currently. At least its relatively clean, unlike NYC, and the outer semi-urbs (Alexandria, Arlington) are relatively affordable and nice.ebo wrote:I'm always surprised at the number of people on TLS who want jobs in DC after law school. It is truly the cesspool of humanity.

Compared to NYC, even Georgetown is affordable.

I felt weird too, but people knew how hot and humid it was. Plus, I got to know the security person after he stopped me, and that's proven to be helpful at times.ajmax8 wrote:yea i did that once and felt a little weird, but I might start doing that again. And New York can be stifling toorayiner wrote:At least its relatively clean, unlike NYC, and the outer semi-urbs (Alexandria, Arlington) are relatively affordable and nice.ebo wrote:I'm always surprised at the number of people on TLS who want jobs in DC after law school. Worst part of DC: the people who work with/know someone influential and think that this somehow makes them important too.

I love DC. How the hell do I get a job there? The firms at my school have four to five times more interviews for NY than DC!
Skadden doesn't even have any interviews scheduled for the DC office.

What parts are you looking in? The area around Pentagon City Mall is really nice if you can get over all the tourists.Djemba Djemba wrote:they're like east berlin with faux brick instead of cinder blocksrayiner wrote:Alexandria, Arlington) are relatively affordable and nice.ebo wrote:I'm always surprised at the number of people on TLS who want jobs in DC after law school. DC is just sucky in general, not just during the summer. Pretty sure it has more assholes per capita than any other city in the US, including NY.

NOVA is kinda meh--I prefer the Maryland 'burbs--Annapolis is really nice (but the commute to DC sucks)

I actually like it here when I don't have to deal with summer weather, but yeah, there are a lot of jerks. Lots of cool people too though, you just have to work harder to find them.Sounder89 wrote:DC is just sucky in general, not just during the summer. I was on a metro car with the heat on the other day.
