Never would have thunk it. I guess I'll have to send them an app now that I know how to say it.

Stress is also an issue, at lest for me. Is it WOK-tell? wok-TELL? I know what it is. I'm just saying that people need to know what syllable to stress. They seem very particular about that. Same with Cravath. For the longest time I thought it was CRAVath, not craVATH.thesealocust wrote:wok-tell
Also, a little known fact: The "Meagher" in Skadden Arps is pronounced, "Mar."

No love for Martindale ITT? Much more useful/comprehensive I think for the nonbiglaw firm seekers.

Pretty sure original credit might go to Kronk on that one.bjsesq wrote:AWESOMEoneforship wrote:Another interesting source, for those interested in litigation:

Re: External Resources for OCI Research
Apparently I suck at the Interwebz.
1) How can you search and find out what firms in particular state offer a summer associate program? NALP is awful to try and search and doesn't list all of them.
2) What's the easiest way to search and find alumni in other states?

Does anyone know any good resources for researching mid-sized firms? Some of the firms coming to my OCI can't be found in the NALP directory.

Re: External Resources for OCI Research
Since Already Board has been down for a few months, are there any other sites similar to it which show the firms in select geographic regions and their starting pay? The NALP firms in the region I am targeting tend to not post starting salary info. Thanks.

Re: External Resources for OCI Research
Chambers and NALP were the most helpful when researching firms as a student. I compiled all the data I gathered into an extensive spreadsheet to track which firms I'd applied to, which ones responded, which ones I'd interviewed with, etc.
As far as seeing salaries of firms in specific geographic regions, I've found this site helpful, though not always up-to-date: http://www.infirmation.com/shared/insider/payscale.tcl

What's the best site for getting a list of alumni from one's school?
ResumeLaunchpad.com is only marginally helpful (it misses a lot).
EDIT: Martindale. Right?

why aren't some firms listed on the nalp guide? (I am talking about firms that were a few months ago - kirkland, k&l gates, etc.)

accidentally posted this in guide to mechanics of OCI etc thread:
Where can we find information on associate bonus structure at various firms? I'm having a tough time deciding between two firms and I feel like bonuses might be what gives one firm an edge over the other.

There isn't a good database of this info. Your best bet is combing through ATL's bonus watch posts.Anonymous User wrote:accidentally posted this in guide to mechanics of OCI etc thread:

That said, bonuses at biglaw firms tend to be a very small part of compensation. I doubt the difference in bonuses between the 2 firms you are considering is significant and I would generally recommend basing your decision on other factors.

Re: External Resources for OCI Research
do these external resources work? I heard from a few friends that symplicity and other websites usually are just resume collections and don't(at least majority of the time) result in anything.
any thoughts? Don't mean to offend anyone. Just an honest question.

Re: External Resources for OCI Research
I'm a cofounder of http://www.navforward.com. It's another useful tool to help you research law firms of all sizes. You can quickly learn what an office actually does so that you can more effectively craft your narrative and/or cover letter to match the needs of that specific office. We also have information about leverage ratios, partner track, and promotions.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
