"There is a big difference b/w 80k and 100k"......let me guess, you were raised by at least an upper middle class family, they paid for your college, and you went straight to law school from undergrad? I.e., you have no experience with real life?

You apparently have tons of evidence of me "being wrong all the time." Either you were acting like a 4-year old or you've been around here long enough to see all of my wrongness in its full splendor and glory.Nogameisfair wrote:Uh what heck?A'nold wrote: "Stop being wrong all the time"......alt much?

Uh, nope. I was just playfully telling you to stop assuming that because I think there is a difference between 80 and 100 that I have no life experience, and that basically everything you said was inaccurate.A'nold wrote:You apparently have tons of evidence of me "being wrong all the time." Re: 3L with non-biglaw firm job taking questions.
OP how considerable do you think grades played as a factor in you being hire for this job?
Do you think grades as a function of your job prospects lighten up in these midsized firms?
Also, congrats on landing one of those "mythical" jobs.

To be fair, I just wanted to rag on the guy being a forum rules nazi by being a grammar nazi.jwaters wrote:I love how we have someone here with actual experience willing to answer questions about non-biglaw firms, yet all TLSers can do is bitch to each other about grammar mistakes and the difference between 80k and 100k.

OperaSoprano wrote:OP, congrats! Do you feel your experiences were typical for your school? Did the firms care much about your grades/were they a factor? I am bumping this because I think it may be of use to others seeking a job that offers better balance than standard biglaw.
My experience, as far as I can tell, is not typical for my school. The majority of students are still looking for jobs. As far as grades go, I'm sure many of my rejections were due to grades. The firm I will be working at saw my resume but never really asked about grades. The other firms I previously worked asked about my grades and I answered honestly, telling them I was in the middle of the pack. You can make whatever inferences you want, but those are the facts. Unfortunately I never asked them why they hired me despite my mediocre grades.

Thanks for taking questions.
I have around 40k in debt. I chose a lower school with a full-ride over a better school at sticker. I feel very comfortable in paying of the debt over four or five years (give or take).

Re: 3L with non-biglaw firm job taking questions.
It is stressful clerking part-time, but luckily my class load was light during my 3L Fall. This semester it really sucks as I have a full load. I regards to law review and clinical experience, I did not do law review but participated in a clinic during 2L Spring.Anonymous User wrote:OP- I'm actually in a similar situation to you and could definitely use some insight.
I also struck out at OCI this year (2L currently) but found a job with a ~35 attorney firm that actually sounds very similar to your firm. I'll be working this summer for them, and they really stressed that they want me to continue working part-time during my 3L year. All in all they seem like a really chill place to work without BigLaw stress/hours.
I'm just worried because they aren't NALP or anything and I don't know what their policy is towards hiring new attorneys. I don't want to work there this summer and all of 3L only to be thrown out into the cold when I graduate or pass the bar. Did you have this issue at your firm? How/when did you bring this issue up?
As far as being thrown out in the cold, I would not have continued to clerk during 3L if I were not fairly certain it would lead to a job. I had several good discussions with several partners, all assuring me they wanted me to work there after lawschool. Despite no formal offer, I trusted their word. Plus, it allowed me to continue to look at other opportunities while still having a solid back-up plan.

I think my grades were somewhat neutral. While they certainly didn't help, I don't believe they hurt me too bad. Thanks for the congrats.delBarco wrote:OP how considerable do you think grades played as a factor in you being hire for this job?

**Edit**: I'm not sure what you mean by "lighten up." I certainly targeted more midsize firms because I knew biglaw was basically out of the question.
