Re: Cadwalader offers
Apparently this is the first day they have made offers. My CB was some time ago (2+ weeks), and the person who called to give me the offer apologized for the delay in getting back to me.

one of the partners who interviewed me at the CB called, not the pre-screener. i don't want to say exactly when i interviewed because i don't think there were many that day. it was less than a week ago, though.

Yes. I interviewed last week. 2 out of 3 associates I interviewed with were miserable. The best thing they could say about the firm (and I was trying to get them to say whatever positive came to mind) was "it's a job."Anonymous User wrote:is cadwalader really as miserable as people say it is?
One, when asked why s.he came to work at CWT, answered that s/he had gone to a lesser law school so it was the best (or only) offer for biglaw s/he got. S/he looked like she wanted to cry. Are these the most enthusiastic associates the recruiting department has to offer?

Plus, the firm has been either dead last or close to dead last in the Amlaw associate satisfaction survey for years now. I mean how does that happen without the firm taking some kind of corrective action?Anonymous User wrote:Yes. I interviewed last week. 2 out of 3 associates I interviewed with were miserable. From what I hear, a lot of the partners are screamers. PPP are massively high but they don't seem to really care about the associates much or mentor them at all - they are just slaves driving billable hours. The leverage at the firm is massive, the firm from what I hear throws dozens of associates on cases, and all the work flows downhill of course, so the juniors are left with the truly unpleasant stuff. There are 0 prospects for partnership, almost all their partners seem to be laterals.
I mean, in all honesty, a lot of firms treat associates as billable hours, but at least the partners / other associates try to make it a pleasant place to work in the time. CWT has sunk really low, from what I hear it used to be a pretty decent firm in its glory days. I hope they can turn it around but it honestly looks kinda grim.
There is also not a whole lot of transparency. With the bloodletting in 2008/2009, associates found out about all of this from ATL, not from management directly. I don't know if things are changing, but I don't see how CWT can survive as a firm if it has such a bad reputation that it can't attract talented associates and it has to pluck summers from the bottom of the class.

Re: Cadwalader offers
Won't speak to the rest of the quote, but this part is untrue. Most associates I talked to say the layoffs were as handled as well as a large layoff could be and they were informed by the firm, not the media. CWT got such bad press because they were the first to lay off, which is no surprise given their involvement in capital markets. In fact, even ATL praised the firm for how it handled the situation:Anonymous User wrote:With the bloodletting in 2008/2009, associates found out about all of this from ATL, not from management directly. The feeling I get from the firm is that it's a place to go and work your ass off for a firm that runs like a business. You need to be pretty hardened to work there.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
