I'm really interested to see how many offers actually materialize. I suspect that the Boston firms' commitment to diversity only extends to a few token call-backs.

I have no way of adding meaningful data at the moment since I haven't gone on my callbacks yet, but I know there were a fair number of people from out-of-town schools who had a connection to Boston and wanted to work in Boston, and at least the job fair was a way for us to get access to screening interviews at Boston firms that didn't recruit at our schools. In a good economy, I suspect that my credentials would be enough for an offer -- even if I weren't a diversity candidate -- from at least one or two of the firms that called me back; I'm hoping that even now, the callbacks will go well. Attorneys' time is valuable; I don't think they would offer a callback to someone and tell them to expect to spend 3 or 4 hours at their firm if they didn't have at least a nominal interest in that person. In my case, the firms that called me back are also paying for my travel expenses.

The CB--offer rate for firms in the Boston area last year was around 33%. Just fyi. I don't think this statistic differentiated between CBs from OCI or CBs from other career programs or fairs.

btw its like...industry standard for firms to pay for your cb expenses. I haven't heard of any firm not doing so.

BTW my point was like...a lot of people at the job fair were actually in school in Boston and therefore firms do not have to pay for their callback expenses. Not only does that mean missed billing time for attorneys participating in the fair, it's an active expenditure of cash. Why would they callback an out of town candidate if it's just out of a token commitment to diversity?

Take a second and click on an individual firm and you'll see numerical data across gender and ethnic groups.

And by the way, does anyone find it utterly absurd that firms consider someone to be a diverse candidate just because they aren't a straight white male?

Still incomprehensible. As in meaningless. Looking at the data doesn't tell you anything beyond the ethnic composition of the law firm.

Beyond the obvious criticism that you don't know the ethnic background of law students applying for jobs to those firms, the rankings compare the firms in the market to each other. That doesn't even make sense in determining whether a specific firm is committed to diversity. It also fails to account for racial bias (e.g., Fish & Richardson has the highest percentage of asian lawyers? no shit)

What's the general sense that firms have been giving people about the timing of their offers? One firm told me that they would get back within two weeks, but everyone else has been pretty vague -- "within a couple of weeks" is the best they could say.

Ditto. CB - 2 days later, ding. I think Boston firms are all having unusually small classes this summer. Its rough man. Really rough.
