Small boutique that does big law type govt work. Get fairly frequent emails about new clients, things seem opulent and busy. We're so small I doubt it's that relevant to the market at large, but things at least don't seem dire here (without contrast, I can't say if it's particularly better or worse than usual - just that it isn't dire).

Isn't this a little vague and too optomistic. Considering the ridiculous reduction in class size, and the amount of rising 2L's and 3L future 1yr or 2yr clearks who are Summer Associates who won't add to the employment numbers in 2011, should it really be encouraging that KE will be making offers to the small class it has? (relative to pre-mini-depression Era).

(relative to pre-mini-depression Era).

Yes. Getting no-offered is horrible. People have hypothesized the phenomena would pass given smaller class sizes, hearing whispers of anecdotes of those hypotheses being correct is quite encouraging. The bottom has been falling out of the legal market for a long time. I remember the day I realized there hadn't been a lay off post for days on Above the Law and I celebrated. No news can be great news these days.

It's especially encouraging since there have been no deferrals or salary freezes/cuts.

I have heard that a lot of firms are going for similar SA class sizes. And I would imagine some are expanding and some are decreasing (helpful, I realize). A lot of the thinking seems to be "why mess with a good thing?" The good thing being survival, no more deferrals, layoffs etc.

I think it would be helpful to know if any SAs' firms are overwhelmingly busy, which would probably be a decent indicator of an uptick in hiring. I mean I'm sure I'd like you all if I met you, but I seriously want you to be crushed by the weight of your workloads.
