4 pre-select, 1 alt. (high #, not going to happen)
3.4 ugpa in biomedical engineering, little/no w/e
just outside top 10% at t2 law school
does anyone think this number of interviews is enough to make the trip from the east coast?
thanks.

16 pre-selects, 2 alternates. Non-EE/CS tech background. T14.
Didn't get a couple of firms I wanted though, even though they were ostensibly less selective than some I did get.
Interview schedule on Fri. is brutal --- 11?
... how do you find your alternate ranking? One of mine has a (2) next to it, the other just says "alternate".

all of you are amazingly talented in a unique way, and are in amazing shape in this economy at this time. Cheers to all of you with such numerous screening interviews. I would be careful to make sure you all memorize the firm names properly, and not address Firm A as Firm B, that would be the worst - I think.

Re: Loyola Patent Results
I'm surprised at how many firms are hiring. I am actually really surprised at the market demand for patent attorneys. Oh well, there's not real reason for me to be surprised, the tech/law combo is potent, and not pursued by that many engg. types. For one, its a detour, not a designed play - a small minority (I think), enter engineering programs with legal-industry intentions.

Re: Loyola Patent Results
Are there any ways besides bringing a stack of resumes to let employers know about how you did this past semester?
I did pretty well first semester, but very well second semester. I have several interviews, but I expected a few more. I have significant w/e in software development.
Thoughts?

It depends on your sitution. If you're at T14 looking at 15+ interviews from blind lottery this OCI, maybe its not worth it to come to Loyola for 1-2. If you might only pre-selected for a few interviews at OCI, then it's definitely worth it.
Personally, in this economy, I would not waste a single opportunity to interview. I'm treating each of mine as one that I absolutely have to close or risk unemployment.

Personally, in this economy, I'm telling people to cancel even if they 5-6 b/c (a) not worth the money/hassle; and (b) more interview possibilities for me.rayiner wrote:Personally, in this economy, I would not waste a single opportunity to interview. Any other 3Ls? I got 2 pre selects, which seems pretty good all things considered. Since I am in the Chicago area, I figure I might as well give it a go.

First 3L poster here, that is surprising. The firms that selected me were both in the Chicago area, that must have helped. I am near the top of my law school class but my undergrad is in Aerospace Engineering with a Masters in Mechanical. Keep trying though, if I had it all to do over again I would definitely have majored in Electrical Engineering.

Hey guys, just checked the system. ~25 preselects, 1 alternate.
Ph.D. from top 5 school, T14.
>20 interviews seems like too many.
Should those of us with more than 15 drop some?
I pretty much applied to the patent firms with most attorneys.

Well, there's no way to do it in advance, but my understanding is that people can and do pick up interviews at the fair itself, during the Wed night reception and also during the actual interview days. Unless you live far away from Chicago and/or have no money, I'd still go.Anonymous User wrote:Are there any ways besides bringing a stack of resumes to let employers know about how you did this past semester?

SO hey does anybody know if we're going to get asked, like, super technical questions at these interviews? Will they be all like "explain to me how a MOSFET works" or "draw the i-v curve of a zener diode".

Does anyone have any money-saving tips? The student hotel is $139/night, and that area of Chicago doesn't seem to get much cheaper.
I'm currently estimating this trip will cost about $1000, including airfare, hotel, food, transportation, Saturday sightseeing, etc. I hope it's worth the cost!

I used Hotwire. There's a four-star listed as "North Michigan Avenue - Water Tower - Gold Coast area Hotel" for $89/night. That ended up being The Allerton, which is within easy walking distance of the Embassy. I'm flying, so there's no car to worry about.dood wrote:I spent all morning looking at Hotwire, Priceline, and betterbidding.com. Submitted like 10 bids on Priceline, didn't get a thing. There are better hotels for roughly same price, but a little further away - Hyatt, Swissotel, Palmer Hilton, Sheraton Towers, Hotel Sax, Omni, Affinia are the ones you are going to win if you bid 3.5* or 4* and ~$100 in Chicago area #6 and #7 on Priceline.com.
Or you can get 4* Hyatt or similar 4* at airport for $30...but then you'd have to pay transportation, plus just a fucking hassl to do anything.
I finally booked Doubletree. Total with tax: $641.62 (but I'm splitting with another dood) and self-parking: $41.00/night. Can save money by unloading your stuff, then parking a little further for $20/night, taking a cab back to Doubletree area.

Re: Loyola Patent Results
I got 6 with lots of alternates. MSEE, work experience, T50 school in the top 50%. I bid on firms mainly on the other side of the country where I have no connections.
I'm surprised I got any at all because the website corrupted my resume in the PDF conversion process. I also didn't list anything for a summer internship since I was still interviewing around at that time.
I'm not sure if it's worth it to go.

1) 6 interviews gives you a real shot at a callback, why throw that away?
2) Don't bid on firms on the other side of the country where you have no connections at OCI.
3) You can check the resume you submitted on the Symplicity page. Why didn't you fix it? Don't do that at OCI either. Especially since you can go to the reception and network your ass off.
Very real possibility that 6 interviews is more than you'll get at OCI if your T50 allows pre-screening, which almost all do. Don't turn down the opportunity.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
