A question for those who have been on the other side of the interviewing table, or learned some facts after their interview about the decision-making process, what's the process after an interview like? I would imagine things are a bit rushed if the judge is following the plan, but assuming they're hiring at an off-peak time and handling trials concurrently, what's the process like afterward? I would also think that everything's been read in the app by this point, and it just comes down to having the time to confer with clerks? Is this close?

I interviewed with the district judge I'm clerking for at an off-peak time. Really a gnarly interview... an hr with the judge, then 45 min with the career clerk, and another 45 minutes with the term clerks. Got a call back from the judge a week later. It's pretty typical for decisions to be made quickly like that. Sometimes offers are made on the spot and a judge will just cancel the remaining interviews with other applicants. In terms of tangible qualifications, applicants are usually on the same playing field when they interview. Chambers is such a tight-knit work environment that the interview process is mainly a way for the judge and other clerks to determine whether someone's a good fit.

yeah, 8:00, from what I saw palling around with clerks, as mccain would say, that's very close. it's really mostly a feel thing at that point.
